Adam Anderson entered an Alford plea and was sentenced to 1 year in prison for two counts of sexual battery, to be served concurrently. An Alford plea means he pled guilty but denies his guilt. That chapter in his life is now over.

Except for the year (or 8 months prolly) in jail he has to serve….
Guessing this was advice from his lawyer after the grand jury indictment.
8months in prison or risk potentially 25 years on he said/she said case of rape before a jury

Aren't there 2 charges against him?
He said/she said
He said/a different she said

My understanding is that he agreed to plea both as misdemeanors and the DA wanted back to back 12 month sentences, but the judge gave him 2, 12 month sentences to run concurrently

Steve is a great attorney.
Once charged, all prosecution had to prove was women were drunk. Bar was low. He couldn’t risk that with felony rape charges with minimum sentences.
Preach to your kids and grandkids to avoid drunk sex like their lives depend on it.

Was foreman on high profile rape case years ago that occurred at a going away party at a Restaurant in Buckhead for a worker at a prominent law firm.
It’s crazy what I learned at the 6 day trial, but the crazy takeaway for me was that someone drunk, cannot legally give consent in GA, which is why it was a good deal for Anderson here.
Oh, also learned that sodomy is not just anus, but anything sexual organ to mouth as well) in the State of Georgia.
Also, the actual charge of rape in GA is min 25 years up to death penalty.

Yep.
He was screwed the moment they indicted on those charges.
That had to be an impossible decision to take the plea …especially if it was two drunk people.
I hope this young man’s life wasn’t ruined over regret.

He’s got bigger problems on the horizon.
As per 24/7:
Anderson faces further charges in relation to a June 2022 arrest. He was taken into custody in Fulton County and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery, simple battery, theft by taking and reckless conduct.

Sounds like he is just a shitty dude. Glad Kirby kicked him off the team when he did.

There was a case back in the 1980s in an Atlanta suburb where a woman had sex with her ex, and asked him to go down on her first. Later she called the cops and reported him for sodomy and he got 20 years in prison. I think that case led to changes in the Georgia sodomy laws.

Yes, it did. It’s now legal to sodomize if both participants agree prior to engaging in oral/anal play
Also, there are NO degrees of rape in the State of Georgia. If convicted, it’s a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison and can even include the death penalty.
Probably why AA didn’t risk a trial, especially cause his defense of she gave consent would be thrown out as she was too drunk to mean it, which is the law in Georgia too

I am not familiar with an Alford plea. Is this something that has been around for a while?
When my boys were growing up I warned them repeatedly about under-age girls. I knew a kid that got into the legal system over that very thing, messing around with an under-age girl. He did time, in another state, about 15 years for for receiving a BJ from a willing under-age girl.
Sex-violation laws seem to be rather harsh in some respects and no I am not talking about brutal, forcible rape. I am talking about drunk women and drunk men in a she said/he said scenario.

It looks like he got this dropped to misdemeanor charges. I I imagine these charges will hang over him a long time and possibly his entire life when he goes for job applications. Still he's probably lucky he didn't go to jail for 20 plus years. There is a Facebook group I am on and people were siding with Anderson like they know the guy because of his association with UGA. I just don't have any information or inside scoop on this case, but glad it's settled.

What are the chances he gets a shot with an NFL team?

I think if he were in the league, he would face a suspension(since it's a misdemeanor) and banishment on the 2nd offense. Since he is not in the league I doubt any team gives him a chance.
