K9 specifically mentioned in a previous thread that he knew somebody in the AD office that said he wanted the job when we hired Crean but Howdy Doody being the dumbass he was didn't even interview him.

Yet another terrible hire by McGarity.

Information discovered during an internal review by UGA Athletics into the physical altercation between basketball assistants Wade Mason and Brian Fish has lead to the creation of a new inquiry into the culture of the Georgia men’s basketball program under head coach Tom Crean.

The new review will examine all aspects of the program, and sources could not provide an expected timetable for its conclusion.

The altercation between Mason and Fish was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and occurred at halftime of Georgia’s 85-64 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge on February 16th. On February 19th the university acknowledged the incident between Wade and Fish. In a statement released in response to reports by this website and other outlets, UGA Athletics said the incident was, “reported properly as required by university policies and is under review,”

Just hours later, Crean’s team took to the floor for an 85-68 loss to Ole Miss. Following his postgame press conference, Crean was unknowingly overheard speaking to an athletic department employee in remarks first published by Dawgs247.

In those remarks Crean speculated that graduate assistant Rashaan Surles was responsible for helping to feed the media negative information about the UGA basketball program.

In those same remarks Crean was also critical of Senior PG Aaron Cook. Cook has remained in the starting lineup since that time and his 156 assists this year are the 5th most by a UGA player in a single season.

Crean is in his 4th season at the helm of the Georgia program and his team is 6-23 overall with a 1-15 record in conference play. The Bulldogs have regular season games remaining against Tennessee and Missouri before starting play in the SEC Tournament in Tampa on March 9th.

Schlabaugh

Good article by Schlabaugh here on the state of the basketball program, my only gripe is that he interviewed Howdy Doody, who is a lot of the reason we are in this mess now. But good article.

Hire Sean Miller.

Is there a dark horse other than Miller who KNOWS Georgia and could recruit GA? Seems to be the elephant in the room...UGA's inability to recruit a home state that's loaded. Maybe an assistant who could come in under a Miller or someone we haven't thought of at all? Is there a basketball equivalent to Kirby? Could Wilkins be talked into coming to the program or someone like him?

Set the SEC record for losses in a year with 25. So that's cool

Nique? LOL. He's never coached a day in his life. Hard pass.

Miller or bust.

Not necessarily him but is there a former Dawg that's coaching now somewhere that would be a great fit the way Kirby has been?

No. Unless you're thinking of Jonas Hayes and personally, I don't think he's what we need right now. We need someone w/HC experience.

Are there any Transgender Coaches? I feel we need to make a bold hire!

The WNBA is full of them.

Not thinking of anyone in particular as I am woefully under informed about the basketball landscape vs the football landscape. I do believe in the theory that keeping the GA talent in state could produce similar results as has football.

Maybe a combo of an elite coach with an assistant like Hayes who could be a part of the recruiting solution. Something needs to happen fast.

However, can we overcome the damage that the 1-and-done environment can cause a program? We'd have to be patient as a fan base to allow a great coach the space to turn around both the Xs/Os quality on the court plus a systematic recurring elite recruiting. Won't happen overnight.

It can happen with 1-2 recruiting classes in basketball. Not even remotely close to football.

I mentioned on another forum a couple of days ago that whomever they bring in, especially if it's a neophyte like Jonas(I hope not), they need to commit and stick to a 6 or 7 year deal to get us out of this mess. And throw all of our available resources behind them.

This will be Josh Brooks's legacy.

frick no. Thats why we mired in mediocrity so long under fox. It's basketball, you can turn a program completely around in a couple years. We should be commiting to like 5 years off the bat then reevaluate. Giving someone a guaranteed 7 with no proof they'll actually be good is crazy

Ok, 6-7 years might be a little much, but my bigger point still stands. You have to commit to someone and put all of your resources behind him and put him in a position to succeed. But at the same time you can't keep bringing new guys in every 2-3 years, either.

It's Brooks's legacy on the line. You guys can disagree w/me on that but that is the absolute truth. This hire will either be the rebirth of the program, or its death knell and ultimately Brooks's death knell w/it.

It's happening. Surely no one is surprised by now but starting to see the papers confirming ahead of official announcement.

AJC - Chip Towers Article

According to the article, the UGA Lettermen are pushing hard for Jonas Hayes to come back home to UGA from Xavier.
