irrelevant

irrelevant. FFS the first 3 items on the list are "well he's from here"

He's specifically known to be a strong recruiter
very relevant and has merit. Noted.
quote:
He's very well-liked and respected
I'm sure we won't be able to find any other candidates that people like

He played under the most successful coach we've had in decades,
irrelevant
quote:
He hasn't been a head coach yet,
majorly relevant but in the other direction
quote:
It would be a stretch to say it's the basketball equivalent of hiring Kirby Smart for football, but it's at least in the same ballpark. A
it is NOWHERE EVEN CLOSE to the same ballpark.
So let's recap. This guy thinks the best coach from coast to coast to rebuild our program is a guy that 1)is nice 2)played and was an assistant here 3)transferred programs at one time a few decades ago 4) is a good recruiter. Literally the only one of those things that matters is that he can recruit, but I'm pretty sure what coach we actually hire will also be a good recruiter.
That guy makes a case that is anything but compelling. Unless it's compelling for reasons why he shoudl NOT be hired, in which case well done.

Hey I'm with you, but we are the only 2 in this minority. Everyone else wants Jonas like yesterday.

you're crazy dude, we are very much in the majority. Jonas people are very much the vocal minority. Just because K9 and mark slonaker want him doesn't mean we're in the minority. Everyone with common sense can see it's be logically stupid to hire him. Which again is why I can't imagine brooks doing it.

I’m interested in knowing more about the Cleveland St. guy. I’m not familiar. Would he be a good hire?
Is it realistic that Brooks could get Forbes away from WF despite the new contract?

What if Josh makes a splash hire and gets a marquee coach along with Jonas as an assistant as an heir apparent?

gates? I was originally high on him but I think we can do better. IMO there's a pool of like 4 or 5 guys that are all kinda in the same boat. Gates, Mcasland, the vcu guy, the murray state guy. None are necessarily bad but I think I might prefer mcasland.

Nah I don't think so

Fair enough. But judging from reading around on different sites it sure felt that we were in the minority. Hopefully you're right and we are in the majority. I have no reason not to believe you.

I've also seen Lamont Paris, the UT-Chattanooga HC, thrown out there also and his resume looks appeasing.

that would be really awesome but I don't know if jonas would want it. A big time coach is gonna want all his own guys most likely, and who knows if jonas would make a lateral (on paper) move? He's an associate HC at Xavier and has been there almost as long as he was an asst here.

What do we think about Matt McMahon, the Murray St.HC?
I can be talked into him...

I don't dislike him my only concern is that similar to VCU or Wichita State, that's one of those programs that everyone wins at. Their last 6 HCs have all taken them to the tourney. Not sure how hard it is to win there, although he does have a nice resume.
A guy a step above the mid-majors I've seen mentiond is medved at Colorado State. He's done a hell of a job there so I could maybe take a flyer on him.

I just looked him up. I'm intrigued.
Fair point on McMahon.

I think I might like mcasland more than the rest of that pool of guys though. Guy has jsut won everywhere he's been.

I'm with you. If Brooks hires him I will be very happy.

I shouldn’t have checked in on the game.

Even I am not gonna watch it. Just ready for it to be over

This might be bad enough that the UGA Athletic Department will actually do something about it.
