Unlike a lot of you guys, I think Crean is probably a pretty good coach. Just watch the guys he has on the floor...simply horrible basketball players. Couldn't beat a good High School team.

Has there ever been a team with only 6 total wins with 2 against ranked teams? He had enough talent to go .500. He lost this team. Like he did last year. There is something fundamentally wrong with him or at least his ability to consistently lead, inspire, and teach.

He was such a good coach that his entire team left the program in the same offseason…..

Also, a DIII team could put up more than 15 points in a half against that Vandy team.

Crean got paid to do nothing and fricked our program.

I agree with the lead/teach part. He's obviously not THIS bad of an actual COACH, like in the sense of basketball Xs and Os, otherwise he wouldn't have the success that he has had previously. And even early in this season we played hard and played somewhat decent just couldn't close out games. But yeah...towards the end everyone gave up and we were a totally different team.

I've said this before and will keep repeating it. I am NOT sticking up for him necessarily but it is worth noting that no group of coahces in the history of basketball up until like 2 years ago have had to deail with the portal. Crean is obviously a portal idiot where guys like saban/kirby are portal savants. My only point is that people compare crean to felton or fox who were both also mediocre to awful but at least those guys never had to worry abotu their entire 10 man roster leaving after the season ended.

Oh well, ancient history at this point. I am absolutely pumped about this search since there are so many directions we could go in and we finally have a competent leader making the decision.

Pumped may be a bit strong for me... but cautiously optimistic at least. I think we'd be hard pressed to do worse than Crean, but I don't want to see us set the bar at "better than Crean" or we end up with Fox part deux which ultimately will leave us spinning our wheels for another decade. Need someone who is ready to build a program, knows how to recruit, and isn't just taking us as a stepping stone gig (at least not a short term one)... I don't know who the right candidate is for that but hopefully the powers that be can figure it out.

Part of being pumped is knowing that we're at rock bottom so we can only go up from here. And based on teh pool of candidates it looks more likely than not (I'm guessing) that we're gonna pick someone from that pool of mid-majors which is a different direction that the last couple guys we've hired. I think those guys are more prone to program bulding than a crean or fox and I also think with teh money and resources we have they'll be inclined to stay a while. Hopefully anyway.

Sounds like Mcmahon is the front-runner IMO. I like it:

Sources have also told DawgSports that McMahon and his wife Mary have done research on Athens in recent weeks, contacting local schools. The couple has two daughters and a son under age 12. McMahon’s Murray State team will be in the NCAA Tournament next week after going 30-2 and not dropping a game to a conference opponent in the regular season or conference tournament

Seems like a good target for sure

If we can't get Miller that's who I want.
