At least this guy gets it...
quote:

Just to clarify for those who continue to miss it. First, he didn’t go to a game to see Harrison Bailey. He went to a game Harrison Bailey happened to be in. It was a game in his home town between two powerhouse programs and he would have gone to see any game like that. The fact that he talked to Bailey isn’t anything. He talked to a lot of the players.

Second, the date of his announcement has zero to do with the date of our bowl game. He had decided to announce at the All-Star game before we accepted the bowl bid for that date. It’s purely coincidence. Kids used to announce at their All-Star games all the time before the early signing period but since then a few have tried to keep it silent and still do it like that.

As far as why schools he didn’t pick would keep it quiet, I imagine it is a trust thing. You deal with kids and develop a reputation. If a coach was to promise to keep it silent regardless of his choosing and then goes against that it wouldn’t hurt their team short term but the word would get out that their word isn’t good. And that matters long term with future recruits. That’s my thoughts about it anyway.

some Christmas nuggets from my alter:

The decision has not been made but Fromm is likely coming back. Plan A is the quarterback of Stanford plan B the one at Houston plan C is the one at Clemson if Jake leaves. The kid at Clemson would transfer here in a heartbeat. His dad supposedly played with Billy Payne and he also played at North Oconee.

Evans was begging our coach to take his commitment a week ago. A 5 star running back begging to be chosen is where our program is. Chris Milton and Jonas Jennings or both taking this young man under their wing. Is worth the risk and if things don't work out he will go to Florida or Auburn as usual.

We will have some kind of a coaching change after this season. Names thrown out were Hankton or possibly Fountain. Coley will still be around but he may have a different title. Changes will be made.

Our coaches were completely blindsided with Burch's commitment to the Gamecocks. They really thought they had him. They want stop recruiting him but expect Clowney, DL from Miss or BPA as backup plan.

So is Evans a Dawg or no? What you’re saying now sounds like he WANTS to be here, but the coaches are still cool on him. Which is it?

Gotcha. Good deal. I thought that was the angle, but wasn’t sure what to make of it.

I believe all of that except the Stanford QB being our first option. He sucks.

Costello does not suck. Kid hasn’t had shite for supporting cast, primarily OL.

He’s not great though. A little more mobile than Jake, but is he more accurate? Does he have a stronger arm or higher football IQ? These are things that are debatable.

For what it’s worth, I have it on good authority that Fromm is returning and that decision has already been made.

I am of two minds about Jake coming back.

First, I know he CAN play at an elite level...we have seen him do it. So for the possibility of having a 4 year starter who CAN play at a championship level, I would like to see him stay because behind him, I think we are looking at a 9-3, 8-4 type season with anyone who might be on the roster next year, including a grad-transfer.

On the other hand, he was just off a lot this year. Held the ball way too long, took sacks in situations where you CANNOT take a sack, threw the ball behind receivers on timing routes, seemed even slower and more immobile than in the past 2 seasons...I know he had young receivers...but some of it was just Jake not playing like we have seen him in the past. For those reasons, I don’t mind seeing him go unless he is going to rededicate himself to physical conditioning and stop letting the coach make excuses for him. He needs to speak up on his own behalf and say “Sorry Dawgnation. I let you down this season. I WILL do better next season. Coach won’t have to make excuses for me. If I stink it up, it’s on me to own it.”

Would that be better for you or Fromm?

I'd damn sure rather have Brice from Clemson over Costello. I don't think King would come here.

I am also hearing now that Fromm is coming back. I think he was out initially. His NFL projections are no better than 2nd round and could be 3rd/4th.

I also have it on good authority that a change will be made on offensive side of the ball for 2020.

As buddy of mine said:

“If Kirby still stands by the difference between being great and elite is an inch, then he will go after a co offensive coordinator with improved scheming skills to elevate coley and the whole offensive side.”

I think it would be better for him to come back. There’s no way in hell he gets a 1st round grade now without elite physical tools. I don’t hate Jake. I am glad we have had him. What I hate is the blindly giving him a pass on poor play. It’s not ALL on the young receivers. Jake was to blame for Jakes poor play. I don’t know what factors threw him off this season, and it could just as easily be off the field things that did it as anything else. I think he would help his draft prospects tremendously with a strong senior season. Going out on this junior effort will lose him millions.

This is the real key and what I really want to know more about. Jake was great with Chaney. If this new wrinkle can get him over the hump, I’m all for it. We know he CAN be the guy.

As for him coming back, what I know is straight from the horse’s mouth. He and Big Ben frequent a particular establishment in Athens and the cat was unintentionally let out of the bag.

I sure hope so. Kirby may be stubborn but he isn't a dumbass, it almost seems beyond belief he could look at the current landscape of cfb and not think we need to change how we do things on offense.

This isn’t true at all. He led the pac 12 in passer rating in 2018.

I've been watching a lot of film and interviews of our 4 new WR's, and wow did we hit a homerun with Burton and Rosemy.

Robinson is very raw as far as route running, but an athletic freak with great hands. He will a beast by year 3 at like 6'4 230 running a 4.5. But don't expect him to be a big contributor coming out the gate. He's got work.

Arian Smith is crazy fast, but he's got a ton of work to do on routes, and he needs to spend every other waking moment on the jugs machine to get his hands better. He's a deep threat for us, but don't expect a ton more.

Burton is a slightly taller Mecole Hardman, but maybe even better hands. Amazing YAC potential. He runs incredible routes, catches everything with both hands away from his body and at it's highest point, and then fights for yards, often juking DB's out of their shoes and breaking away.

Rosemy is going to be the gem of this receiving class, though. He's basically Calvin Ridley 2.0. His route running is impeccable and his hands are special.

Burton and Rosemy will play day 1 as true freshmen without question. Both are good blockers, and both catch everything thrown their way with 2 hands at their high points.

Combine them with Pickins, Washington, and Robertson, and our receiving corps should be in great shape next season. I'm assuming Blaylock may take a bit to come back from the ACL.

What we need now is a new spread offensive scheme and to stick to the 50/50 run/pass ratio. And if Fromm comes back, he needs to just throw better.

He's a great looking receiver with great size, hands, and route running. His doesn't have anywhere near Ridley's speed though.

I don't disagree, but we aren't recruiting the kind of QBs to run that offense, other than Mathis.
