That being said, even with him not expected to qualify I’m quite happy to sign the top 2 players out of Alabama.

The staff must think he'll qualify. Remember, a player who signs and doesn't qualify costs us a scholarship. Highly doubt Kirby wastes a scholly on a maybe.

It counts against the 85 for a year.
UPDATE: I got it backwards. It counts against the 25 we can sign in a class. It doesn't count against the 85 total.
