I wouldn't necessarily get your hopes up for that. This is supposed to be a REALLy small class, like maybe 20 guys or less, so even if our "average player rating" is off the charts our total score is going to take a hit.

And dont' get me wrong it's not a bad thing at all, I just don't think we're going to finish top 5 up against schools who are bringing in 5-7 more guys than we will.

Then as you said, the 19 class...omg.

There was a link in the SEC Recruiting thread the other day discussing the proposed new rules for next year. Will they become the law? Who knows. But the possibility is out there.

What are our biggest roster needs for this class?

Seems like we need a few more OLineman, a couple more DTs (we will likely lose 2) and maybe more LB depth and a QB.

OLB is a huge need. LoCarter and Bellamy graduate, so we need to add 3-4 OLB. Not much depth behind those guys.

Another position of need is RB. I realize we'll have Swift, Herrien, and Holyfield but we need 2 RB's in this class (Zeus!).

OL is always a need. DL is a big need IMO, although much of our young talent will be juniors. Need some class separation.

I know we took 4 CB's this cycle but I'd like to see us add 2 in the '19 class.

This is all speculation on my part...

If it's the one I commented in, there was no link laying out the no counting back piece. I linked 2 articles there but neither referenced early enrollee/counting back. If you can find it and link to it, would appreciate it. Just curious where the idea is coming from.

how soon do you think the young bucks on the OL will start paying off?

Relatively soon. I think Hayes mans one of the tackle spots, likely LT due to his maturity and age. Wilson and Thomas have a good shot at the other; Wilson is a prototypical RT and from his first day will likely be the best one at that spot. Thomas surprised a LOT of people at the USAAA game and if he plays like that throughout his college career, then we might have the best LT we've had in a long, long time. Wynn has a position on lock and if we can get good tackle play from the 3 listed plus Baker, then he'll lock down LG. I also expect Gaillard to keep a pretty tight grip on Center, so that leaves RG open for Sims or one of the young guys. Cleveland has all the intangibles, it's a question of learning the position and getting mean. I think he has the highest ceiling of any of our interior linemen. Netori needs to hit the gym and plyo hard this summer and reshape his body; once he does that then the kid will be SEC ready. Kindly has outperformed most everyone's expectations and, at this point in time, until the other 2 prove they can take the necessary steps to get ready, he'll be the one who really fights Sims for that spot. Shaffer I see redshirting this year.

Wynn, Sims, Gaillard, Kindly, Cleveland, Johnson, Baker, Hayes, Wilson, and Thomas. Take that kind of talent and you should be able to put together a pretty good OL. Might take time for them to gel and the young 'uns to adjust, but that might the most talented group of linemen we've had in a while.

FWIW, for the next 2 seasons, I do think you see a pretty good amount of attrition at the OL as Pittman's guys pass upperclassmen.

I suggested this in another thread and was laughed off the stage.

If Pittman is the guru he's hailed as, we should see very noticeable improvement in the OL this year.

Eh, laughed off is probably stretching it, but I seemed to be the only one in the thread thinking the OL could improve.

The thread I'm referencing

It was just 1 guy arguing with you lol

I think most of us would agree the OL should see big improvement in '17. We should automatically upgrade at both tackle positions pretty quickly if not immediately, and do no worse at center. I also see no reason to regress much at guard although I could see it briefly while a youngster finds his way.

My line of thinking is that from this point forward (barring the obvious exceptions of the Solomons and the EJ Prices of the world who are going out of state, even if it kills them), inside the state of GA, Kirby gets who Kirby wants.

Do you disagree with that?

Even yesterday, Bama only signed one kid from Georgia (Xavier McKinney). Tennessee signed 2, and neither of those 3* UT kids had UGA offers. 14 of the Top 25 in-state are now Dawgs. No one took more than 1 player from the Top 25, other than us. 247 Sauce

Compare that to previous years where we were raided relentlessly by ALL programs around us, and it doesn't take long to realize why the program was in desperate need of an Etch-a-Sketch shake-up.

I think we got spoiled this year. We got 5 of the top 10 in state this year - already in the 2018 class, 5 of the top 10 have committed elsewhere and another (Derrik Allen) seems like an OSU lean already.

Even if we match the 14 of the top 25 from this year's, it wouldn't be nearly as top heavy. It could still represent a very good class, but without having some major success from out of state, it wouldn't come close to 300 points.

A lot can change in a year, but the 2017 class was GREATLY buoyed by the fact that Lecounte was committed so early and recruited as much for us as any coach. We don't have that sort of guy on deck yet.

we won't approach 300 points in this class anyway simply due to overall numbers. We're going to take ~6 less guys in '18 than we took this year.

I heard in an interview that Kirby was fielding calls to the '17 recruits as he was gameplanning the NC, last year. According to him, he had to rein the guys in, because they were looking to flip ALL the recruits.

I'll just say, I hope Kirby wants Lawrence and the rest of the top 10 in-state,and leave it at that.

Dabo has a lot of capital to work with, now that he has a NC, but I'm not so sure that Lawrence could be swayed. Most of the talking heads seem to think that the only QB we bring in for '18 will be a DT guy to mix stuff up a bit, but we shall see what we see.
