I don't think Kirbys scheme is to blame. I think it falls on the players.

Some of both, IMO. Kirby didn't use an aggressive pass rush because he didn't fully trust his young interior DL or his secondary. Hopefully this season he can be more aggressive.

So being concerned that we have two recruits, one of which is a kicker, makes me a troll? The fact that the vast majority of the top players in the state are leaving should be concerning.

NSD is over 9 months away and the 3rd ranked player in the country is a favorite to pick us in June.

But continue the panic I guess

I don't think it is unreasonable for people to be concerned. I agree, that it's not time to panic, but concerned? Probably. There's still a long ways to go, but we have lost several players we thought we would get, and have had one or two flip. I am less concerned about RB than I am about some other positions such as OLB.

However, Zamir is a special talent, and he can really be a talent to build a solid class around. For the time being, I will give Kirby the benefit of the doubt. He put together a great class last year, and if he can just make this class solid, I will be excited.

I think adding Zamir will start the flow of other guys. We don't have an Eason/Lecounte in this class recruiting other guys right now. They have been a huge part in the past

I was under the impression that Smart was gonna build that wall around GA and recruit his way to a Natty... what's happening? He had a good class last year. Is there some word on the street?

Rumor has it there's a lot of negative recruiting going on regarding Kirby. Basically coaches saying he won't last long after a 7-5 season. There was a lot of ugly last season, that's to be sure. If, however, Kirby can turn in a good season and show improvement (no ugly losses like Vandy and GT), then I think kids will feel better about committing to UGA for a 3 year minimum.

How did he close so many players this past signing period after and during the poor season this past year?

I'd buy that more if we didn't have two 5 stars already committed for 2019.

Just an observation, not hard data, but it seems like the results of a season don't have as much effect on the class currently being recruited as on the next class. Not sure why that is, but there seems to be a lag. That's one reason I think Kirby should broaden his horizons and start taking a few commits who fill a definite need, even if they're not blue chippers yet.

Look for some late bloomers, or good players who don't fit his size preference. He doesn't have to load up, but he needs to get some kids on board because winning the East isn't likely to turn the '18 group into a top 10 class.

If we show out this year we will flip some of these commits. I base that on sheer gut feeling. That's a big "if" and hinges on Sam Pittman & the O-line more than any other factor, IMO.

I hope you are right....but I think it more depends on how the player gets involved and starts recruiting for the program/coach than a player just being exceptional.
I am not going to judge Kirby too much on this years class. I'll wait and see how the season goes. If we win 10 games and the East i will be satisfied. I don't recall us ever having so much viable NFL talent come back for another year, like we did this year in Chubb, Michel, Carter and Bellamy. This is a great opportunity.

It's a long ways until signing day in February, so we could still pull in a nice class.
On the other hand, it is even longer until signing day 2019. A bad season, or lackluster season this year....and we could lose those two 5* commits.

I think we have a big year, turn this class around and build on the 2019 class.

Call me crazy but I think last year's draft and this one isn't helping recruiting any.

You are 100% Correct, the problem is we have to show out. The spring game didn't make our offense look promising

Never thought about it, but I think you've got something there. We've taken in a lot of top-tier recruits and not turned them into a lot of high draft picks in the last 4 years.

To these high school kids: we're not known as a pro factory, we've had little success in the past 4 years, our coach has no proven track record of winning and we have no immediate playing time to offer.

Not very surprising we're a hot mess this cycle when you factor all that in.

Really don't think recruits care that much about how we looked in our spring game. We need 10 wins this season, and we'll be fine.

If I was a coach at Bama, Auburn, LSU, etc. I'd talk to my recruits about how Kirby hasn't proven anything yet. I'd compare him to Charlie Strong, saying who knows where he'll be three years from now. We need to lessen that worry by winning the East.
