Anyone think this kinda smells like Kirby didn't want 2 schollys going to RB when there are bigger needs? Maybe the EE is just his excuse to nudge Carter in to decommiting?

Carter is too talented for that.

Losing Carter sucks, but we're pretty stacked at the position. Not a huge blow, IMO.

Has being a dawg fan taught you nothing? You can never ever ever ever ever have too many elite RBs on the roster and a decommitment from the #5 RB in the nation is in fact a big blow.

I just find it interesting that Swift's dad's statement that he looks forward to being able to learn from Chubb & Michel's leadership vs. Carter straight up decommitting. Although no one would blame him if his spot on the scholly list evaporated.

The bigger issue IMO is that he still wanted to come here. If he saw Chubb and Michel were coming back and didn't want the competition or something that's one thing. He still wanted to be a Dawg after we'd promised him an EE spot. That is a bad look.

I think there is more to it than that. I mean, he probably wasn't going to play much anyway, so I'm not sure why it was such a priority to him to be an EE, if he wanted to come here. I wish he was coming, don't get me wrong. I wish there was some way to make room. But there isn't. I can't imagine any other recruit that would hold something like this against Georgia. Nobody thought Chubb or Michel either one would come back, much less both of them. What next years recruits will see is that we lost them Chubb and Michel) and see opportunity.

Just to put it out of my mind, we have a 0% shot at Akers, right?

I would think with Chubb and Michel coming back....you are close to being correct. Maybe a5% chance at best?

It's not a big blow to us this year, but we need to have a good 2018 RB class to prevent it from hurting us down the road. I know we've been bitten by the injury bug at RB before, but it would take a crazy series of events for us to have depth issues in the backfield this year.

Well frick it. I want him on the roster but I'm still high on having 4 guys returning who have the best shot at sending the Dawgs to Atlanta for 2017. Sure hurt our recruiting numbers though

I was thinking the same thing, but at the same time you can't have five studs in the same backfield. The all want PT and somebody ain't gonna get it. Just like if we signed Lawrence at QB, one of those superstar QB's would be carrying a clipboard for most of his college career. Nature of the beast. Good problem to have.

There's more to being an EE than just getting immediate playing time at the RB position. You experience the college S&C, get to bond with all of your teammates, get settled into the city, know the playbook, etc. Not sure if you know anyone who has been an EE somewhere but my friends who have done it have said it made a big difference for them.

And the reason you can hold it against us is because he's been committed to us since July when we promised him an EE spot. It looks bad to take that away at the last minute, especially if we end up taking someone like Gibbs as an EE.

Question guys, If Carter wanted to be a dawg so bad why not just enroll in the summer? It seemed like with Chubb and Sony coming back he would more than likely be a reshirt anyway. thoughts?

Can't we just cheat on EEs and, if caught, claim that we suck at addition?

I understand what you are saying here, but honestly...how many people thought both Michel and Chubb would be coming back? Nobody. I would be willing to bet some people hoped they would both return, but it's not like the kid was lied to, or somebody did some trickery. It was a mistake.

And again, I want to make myself clear...I thought Carter would be the better of the two backs. I loved both backs we had committed and hate to lose either of them.

Because the situation left him feeling that we weren't really that committed to him

I understand what you are saying, but if he can't understand that Chubb and Michel were not expected to come back....I mean, shoot. One of the reasons he decided to come here was because HE thought Chubb and Michel were going. I would be willing to bet that them returning had more to do with his decision than no early enrollee status.
