I don't like the early signing period idea. I don't see how the athlete wins. It seems like all the upside is for the schools and coaches, who don't need protection.

I like for guys who know where they want to be before recruiting begins. Let's say the recruit in question is Mitch Hyatt. Do you actually think he cares about what coach is actually there at Clemson? Recruits such as him need to go ahead and sign the LOI and get it over with. Less time and money spent on the expense reports for the other colleges trying to "recruit" him. Just my $.02

Anybody got any info on CB Micah Abernathy,ESPN #91 prospect. He seems to be the quietest recruit in the state.

I think coaches will use it to put pressure on kids who aren't sure. They'll basically threaten them to sign or lose their spot. It just adds another pressure point.

I also think about the under the radar kids who get late offers. They may miss out on better opportunities if they sign with smaller schools in the early period.

Somebody like Hyatt doesn't lose anything by waiting until February.

He's a baller who is getting more publicity recently. UGA, Bama, UT in the hunt

Nothing much. As you said he is a quiet one, however Pruitt and a few other coaches will be at his spring game tomorrow to see him and Darius Slayton. Those guys apparently a major focus of Pruitt's.

I wonder how an early signing period effects conditional offers? Maybe those guys can pressure the coach?

Good points, and I cannot disagree with any of them. I just think having it in play would be better than not having it available. Then again, I suppose football recruiting could and probably would, then be turned into the Wild, Wild West; akin to the current state of College Basketball recruiting.

This, and football should do everything it can to avoid that fate.

Basketball recruiting is FUBAR

Yes. Yes it is. Some of those AAU coaches are of the scum of the earth.

Horrible news, my inside source tells me that Patrick has called Paul Johnson to inform him that he's committing to Tech.

Nah, I'm just playing. He's a dawg.
