As Seth Emerson (link) reported a few days ago, UGA coach Mark Richt was restricted from placing telephone calls for two weeks as a result of the NCAA secondary violation that was self-reported when Richt discussed Josh Harvey-Clemons during a live ESPN television interview on National Signing Day. Richt violated NCAA rules in speaking about a recruit publicly, because JHC's letter of intent, of course, was not faxed until the following day, making him officially a signee.
Dawgs247 obtained a copy of the self-report earlier in April, but Seth's report included an April 23 verdict that Richt had been restricted from phone calls for two weeks. That is a common penalty for NCAA Bylaw 13.10.2, though UGA AD Greg McGarity had (unsuccessfully) asked the SEC for relief from such prescribed penalties, "Due to the de minimis nature of this violation along with the mitigating circumstances."
McGarity's report to the SEC read, "It should be noted that the prospect signed the NLI on February 1st, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. prior to Coach Richt's comments. Unfortunately, there was a long and unanticipated delay in obtaining the signature of the prospect's legal guardian, which prevented him from returning the signed NLI immediately."

He also got invited to The Opening. I think that's the new Nike MVP deal they do in Oregon. Shaq and Trey Matthews got invited as well I believe.
Tramel Terry did too. Think Henry got invited a while back as well. Tons of Dawgs to be there

How is that fishing? It came across my twitter and was pertinent to UGA recruiting.

Trey is good people other than being a Bammer. Him and Bucc post their BOL stuff over here which has some (although obviously Bama lean'ing) UGA recruit nuggets.
Although there's no fault having the Draper hate spill over to some of their more respectable brethren....that guy is a total clown.
But in any case, yes, that's fairly old news.

What does this mean for Georgia Bulldog partisans? A couple of things. For one, it means that we can get set to hear for another few months about how the top player in the country lives 45 minutes from Athens, yet Mark Richt and crew have been behind for his services from day one. That stinks. However, that's about the only potential downside. On the upside this gives that same Bulldog coaching staff a chance to catch up. To remind Nkemdiche of how much easier it will be for his parents to get to Athens than to Baton Rouge or Tuscaloosa. For him to hear rumors of Nick Saban going back to the NFL. For Georgia's defense to lead the squad to a banner season in 2012. Again, when you're not in first place being told that the race just got a little longer can't hurt.
quote:
Georgia was at least as far behind for Jordan Jenkins' services this time last year before Todd Grantham convinved him that Athens was the place to be. Stranger things have happened than for a guy like Robert Nkemdiche to decide that he wants to join a dominant defense close to home, playing for a coordinator with solid NFL experience. I still think turning him is a long shot. But as a general rule, the longer any recruitment goes on the better the chances for the home state school. So if you were looking forward to not hearing about Robert Nkemdiche, prepare to be disappointed. If you were hoping the Bulldogs would have a bit more time to try to secure his services, you just got your wish...

His schtick is old. He has 0 original thoughts. He just regurgitates old Bama talking points and doesn't even do a good job of it.
