Wait, did someone just say that Auburn and Clemson were trying to convince recruits that UGA wasn't a good academic institution

Alabama tried it last year.

Not sure why DGD is such a dick to me, and not sure why Crispy thinks I'm trying to get a rise out of people.

Menlo, what does reading boards have to do with it? How many recruits over the years have said that UGA/Richt come late to the party? How many recruits say "UGAs been recruiting me the hardest"? How many UGA offers come after everyone else in the SEC has offered. If you've been following recruiting for the past 5-10 this is all blantantly obvious.

I would go into arrest/transfers, but you already know how many have fallen off. Let's just say none of these kids are afraid of the hell that would rain down on them from Richt for getting in trouble. I would be surprised if the players even allowed Richt into the locker room(jk, kinda).

he blows but i just always feel compelled to at least get the ball rolling in name calling. and i know, i agree, and it sucks. 9-3 really would be a flat out failure but it won't be seen that way. i just don't want the emptiness that comes with 2011 again.

good lord that is ridiculous. clemson has a better case than either of alabama's proud institutions but even then come on, let's get real here

Just do everyone a favor and get the frick out of the UGA thread.

Or else, consider this an act of war and prepare for us to go over there making asinine, uninformed presumptions about Alabama, their functionally retarded fanbase, and their napoleonic coach with 0 regard for those around him (did I infer the main bullshite stereotypes about the Capstone? Or did I miss one?)

ETA: If Richt is so damn lazy with 15 commits, what does that make Saban with 9?

If you're really 26 and you're really not trying to get a rise out of people, then you're simply misinformed and that's fine.

Yes, UGA was late offering some instate guys over the last 5 years...primarily bc we offered other guys higher on the board first and it is not his philosophy to blanket the country with conditional offers. Further, it is MUCH easier for out of state schools such as Bama, Auburn, UF, etc to offer borderline instate guys early with a conditional offers for two reasons: A. They are significantly less likely to commit on spot to an out of state program they have not grown up fans of. B. Doling out hundreds of conditional offers and then revoking them once the kid is ready will work our ok for the out of state teams, but not the home team.

To say that Richt is notorious for holding an apathetic attitude toward recruiting is completely false and an EXTREMELY narrow minded view of the philosophical differences some teams have in recruiting. In fact, most kids think it is special that they have to get on campus before getting an offer (which Richt delivers personally). We have altered that philosophy somewhat this year because we have 32-33 spots to play with.

The lack of discipline argument is slightly stronger yet still quite weak. From '01-'07 there were no major discipline issues at UGA that every other college did not face. Granted, things slipped from '08-'10. Players got lazy, Richt became a little complacent, and things unraveled for a brief period. Still, look back at those arrests. They're extremely minor outside of a DUI here or there (well, Michael Lemon) and probably never blossom into major issues around most SEC towns. Besides that, we actually have the most stringent drug policy in re conference. We have actually suspended players for half a year due to their 2nd failed drug test. See Bruce Figgins in '09. That simply doesn't happen at other SEC schools. See Urban Meyer's recent problems.

The past two years are a good example of Richt's "lax" discipline. We kicked one guy off because he merely knew about a theft on the team...he wasn't even involved. Further, Rambo was suspended for the Boise game last year fore merely being in the car with a guy who was arrested
for weed...Rambo volunteered the information to Richt out of respect/fear of his discipline. His rule is be upfront if you're in trouble. Do not lie or cover anything up and it's merely a suspension...lie or cover something up and you're booted. See Chris Sanders and Zach Mettenburger.

I like how Bammers are always talking about late offers and laziness when A) UGA doesn't like to offer players, esp instate players, unless they are prepared to take his commitment right then and B) Richt has never had the 50+ people doing all the actual work behind the scenes that has allowed Bama to get on kids out of state so early.

Seymour will be there as well, likely that Cardiello will be as well, and Devine might schedule a visit later this week.

which, as we've discussed, two of those three could commit as well. I'd love to go into the season with a near full class and only the big fish (Foster, Tunsil, Adams, Nkemdiche, etc) left to work on

Yeah, but recruiting never ends. He can announce, but he's #1 in the country and right down the road form Athens. Announce for Bama and that's fine, but he'll get the Foster treatment and at least have to endure us for 9 more months

ETA: Apparently the Alabama HS football bylaws have an age limit that you cannot turn 19 before August 1st of your senior year. Fairly certain Foster is 19 already, so transferring to an Alabama high school would mean no football his senior year...

quote:

"SECTION 3. AGE RULE. A student is ineligible to participate in high school interscholastic athletics if he/she reaches his/her 19th birthday prior to August 1 of the current school year. If he/she reaches his/her 19th birthday on or after August 1, he/she shall be eligible for the entire school year as far as the Age Rule is concerned

Between G-Day, Dawg Night, and just the general time period between now and the start of the season, I think we'll realistically have 25-28 commits before the season starts.

I really, really like how our DB class is shaping up thus far. Matthews, Wiggins, Letman, and Green are a great start and the additions of Langley and hopefully Wilkerson will be very welcome. Letman, Matthews, and Langley are all guys who are talented enough to see pretty substantial PT in their first year if called on, while Wiggins, Green, and Wilkerson are guys who can fight for a spot after putting on a little mass. DB and ILB recruiting so far has been great.
