Season is around the corner, I suppose. Was wanting serious discussion, so that's why I made this thread.

Everywhere on our roster is loaded with talent. Sark has really built a roster, but it's the SEC, which is a whole new conference. A lot of the contenders (Georgia, LSU, Alabama etc.) have similar rosters where they're filled with blue-chip talent. It's an even playing field. Compare that to last years schedule in the Big XII and we beat multiple teams by 20+ (baylor, BYU, tech). The talent level is just not comparable, which makes it more exciting. We have a lot of expectations this year, so I really think we have to play up to those standards. We're back to being contenders for the first time in ages.

The schedule is interesting too.

We should win against CSU to start off the season. Michigan was always going to be a hard game, but we're the more talented and well-coached team, so I think we get out of Ann Arbor with a win. Harbaugh isn't at Michigan anymore, so that's a plus. We should beat UTSA and UL-Monroe. Mississippi State is our first SEC matchup, and I think they'll come and try to give us a "welcome to the SEC" L, but we're at home, and we're the better team on paper, so I think we can get the win. After the bye and we get 0u, we're getting revenge. UGA will be the real test, and I think we lose that game by a small margin. Hard to knock off #1, but it'll be a BIG game for sure. Vanderbilt should be a win. After the bye, we get Florida. Florida is pretty depleted, they aren't the Florida of old, so I suppose we get a win. Then we get Arky, at Fayetteville, which is odd considering we played there 2 years ago (but i'm not complaining). Arky...isn't in the best shape, so bacon strips galore (and an old rivalry back). Kentucky at home would be a hard game, but I think we can weather through it. I hope to crush Aggy. I really do. That would be hilarious.

Best case, 12-0, if we run the table, but that's really unrealistic. Worst case, 9-3. I think 11-1/10-2 is fair. I hope this year will be a good year for us! Hook 'Em Horns!

Y'all must have some friends in the league office because even though an SEC schedule will never be "easy", you have about the best case scenario you could possibly ask for in year 1.

-1st SEC game you have is at home against probably the 2nd worst team in the league. Assured to start 1-0 in your SEC history.
-OU which you already play yearly so that's not really out of the norm
-Georgia which will clearly be the toughest game on the schedule, but you get them at home.
-When you finally do play your first SEC road game (8 games into the season)...it's at the worst team in the league. With the smallest stadium where your fans will likely outnumber the home fans 4:1.
-A reeling Florida that's about to fire the coach soon. Also at home.
-At arkansas and UK at home which are both extremely winnable and should be questioned if lost.
-Then the finale at ATM.

All things considered you really got a fantastic draw. Compare that to OU's first year schedule which involves Ten, @AU, @OM, Bama, and @LSu...yikes lol.

UM is beatable, but OU and UGA back-to-back is dicey. Traveling to CS always sucks but so does their team. I'm also going 11-1 with the UGA game being the lone loss.

I think 12-0 is doable for sure, but unrealistic. In spite of many people on the rant saying we have an easy schedule, the people who rank such things for a living disagree. While I don't think Michigan will be a threat to go back to back, they're still going to be tough to beat, especially at home...and most of their defense (real strength of the team) returns. Of course Georgia is going to be extremely tough to beat, and I think everyone is sleeping on the gooners a bit as well. The fact is in spite of what the rant denizens say, we're going to get everyone's best game just like we did in the Big 12, or at least we will until they get used to us being here. Nobody wants to be the first SEC team to lose to one of the new guys, you can bet the effort level against us will reflect that.

Having said that, with a 3rd year QB and tons of talent on both sides of the ball I think anything more than 2, maybe 3 losses would be a huge disappointment. Of course any disappointment would disappear if we go on to win it all or at least play for it, but still.

10-2. Get an at-large playoff berth.

At-large playoff berth and an SECCG appearance in our first year would be quite awesome, I think.

Honestly, I think we win out. But thanks to this new playoff structure we can get away with 1 loss no problem now.

Uhh..who is the "we" you're referring to? If you're talking about LSU I don't think that's realistic with what ya'll lost, and I don't think it's realistic for us either...but certainly doable if we simply come to play every single game and don't have any serious injuries at key positions both sides of the ball.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can confidently say nobody relatively new to this place would have any clue you're a Texas-ex or even a fan.

Never ever overlook Arkansas. Especially in Fayetteville.

10-2 would be about right. But I can see 9-3. Just don't lose to Aggy or OU.

Weird. But at least you're not an Aggy fan.

What the hell is even a Texas-ex? You know there is no hyphen right? Are you sure you are even a Texas fan? Obviously you didn't attend.

What is weird about me being an alumni and being an LSU fan before I went to Texas?

I have y'all going 11-1 or 12-0 during the regular season only losing to uga in a rematch in the SECC game.
That would make y'all 11-2 or 12-1. It wouldn't surprise me if you guys are national champions at the end of the season.

Please excuse me if I’m out of line, but if you are a Texas fan, why would you expect to lose any games?

The prospect of this season is incredibly exciting. When I read the boards, it’s disappointing to see people posting that they expect to lose this game or that game. It’s so much more exciting to believe your team is going to win.

I think the talking heads have worn people down, simply because they had nothing else to talk about.

We have all of the ingredients, let’s bake the blasted cake!
