Obviously we won’t be winning the SEC, but we’ve got quite the opportunity in front of us. With State and Auburn reeling, we’ve got a very real chance to win these next two road games. If we then take care of business, we should go into the LSU game 9-2.

A 10-2 finish would also put us in very serious contention for the last playoff spot. At a minimum, we’d go to the Sugar Bowl.

Not even close.

Unless the Big Ten, Big 12 and PAC 12 champions all have 2 losses and Notre Dame has 3 we're not sniffing the playoff at 10-2.

10-2 means top 10 ranking and NY6 bowl. We won’t sniff the playoffs. It’s Bama, ND, Clemson, and likey a 1 loss Big 12 team (tOSU if there is no 1 loss team)

Notre Dame will likely lose to Syracuse and maybe USC

The Big 12 Champion will have at least 2 losses. (t.u. still has to play West Virginia, Texas Tech and Iowa State, Oklahoma still has to play West Virginia and Texas Tech, West Virginia still has to play OU and t.u. and the "top 2" play a rematch in Arlington at the end of the year)

Nope

If OSU and Michigan each lose again (and one of them has to by default) and Bama wins out (eliminating the East champion from the discussion in the SECCG) the only hold up to a 10-2 A&M getting the 4th playoff spot would be a one loss Big XII champion. Between OU, WVU and Texas two have to lose again by default.

So assuming we and Bama win out (a huge assumption), we just need to hope every Big XII team finishes with at least two losses and the OSU/Michigan winner loses in the Big 10 Titke game.

Bama
Clemson
ND
A&M

We’d have a win over top-10 LSU and our only losses to the top two seeds in the playoff who will likely be a combined 26-0. No other team competing for that last spot could touch our SOS and the quality of our losses.

the thought of us lamenting that clemson loss for knocking us out of the playoffs is giving me a conflicted stiffy

The committee has proven SOS and the quality of the wins/losses is more important than conference titles. For better or worse.

Compare a two loss OSU’s resume to ours if we both finish 10-2. They lost by more to Purdue than we did to Bama.

Michigan could be tricky but they aren’t that good, they will likely lose twice more anyway.

A two loss Big XII champ is not getting in over a two loss A&M. WVU lost to ISU. Texas lost to Maryland. OU could be a problem BUT if they lose again it will be to WVU most likely and they wouldn’t even make the Title game.

A two loss PAC-12 champ almost certainly won’t happen (everyone but WSU already has two losses) but their overall SOS will be a collective joke at seasons end.

Your Kool-aid is the most delicious ever, but let's just beat State. 2016 is ringing in my ears.

Too much has to happen for A&M
To get a look. I’ll believe it when I see it.

The much more likey scenario is everyone agrees we’re good at 10-2, but outside of the top 6 and not really in consideration.

There is almost no chance we aren’t in the top-6 at the time of selection if we finish 10-2. It would mean the Big 10 and Big XII champions each had only one loss and either UCF gets more respect than they deserve, Washington State wins out or the East champ beat Bama in the SECCG.

Remember, who you lost to, who you beat and WHEN you lost all matter a lot based on precedent. We’d have the toughest SOS by far, the best losses by far, probably the best win and by far the longest winning streak of any team two loss team competing for sports 4-6.

There is no chance barring an almost unforseeable set of circumstances that a 10-2 A&M squad on an 8 game winning streak and a top-10 win two weeks prior wouldn’t be in the final 6 on selection day.

I think any 1 loss champ will be ahead. Probably most 2 loss champs will be. 1 loss ND as well.

ND is a 3 seed in my scenario so that’s moot.

I can say with relative certainty no 2 loss Big 10, PAC 12 or Big XII gets in over us in my scenario. It would go against every premise the committee has established.

What 2 loss team that hasn’t won their conference ever sniffed a playoff?

Mississippi State and Michigan State were 6/7 in the final CFP ranking in 2014

Michigan was 6 in the final rankings in 2016

A ton of 2 loss non conference champions were 8-10

But again, all 4 years there were at least 4 P5 teams with 1 or fewer losses. In my scenarios there are only three.

So much this. Let’s just focus on beating Miss St next week.

And as much as it pains me to say it, y’all keep assuming that all the big 12 teams are guaranteed to lose another game are like the people who assumed Texas would be 2-4 at this point instead of 5-1 or whatever they are.

There could very easily be a one loss big 12 champion or even if a team like the sips has two losses but win the conference, remember they are media darlings and there will be a big push to put them in if there’s a bunch of two loss teams when the season ends.

It is not “very likely”

WVU still has to play Texas and OU, and two of those three teams will face off in the Big XII title game. It isn’t even possible for more than one to finish with 1 loss. Texas and OU both still have to go to Lubbock as well.

I’d bet everything I own a 10-2 Texas with loses to Maryland and Tech or WVU would not get in over 10-2 A&M.

We are not making the playoffs this year. We are much improved
, but not at that level just yet.

Let someone else enjoy that 4 seed arse kicking. Cause it is coming.
