The other issue is that we have had an 5 game losing streak in conference play and still got into the tourney. The issue was that came off of a 7 game win streak. It’s hard as hell to win on the road and we almost choked it last night.

For me the issue isn’t just one game. LSU shouldn’t have hit the 3 but that 3 last night was a good look. So we are 1-5. What is frustrating is that when I look at the talent on the floor - you can tell we are talented. So it’s not being utilized to its (forget potential) it’s not being utilized worth a damn. I was watching some of our OOC games and we just looked off. Especially after Arizona.

Can anybody here with a straight face say that LSU or Ole Miss should be in the building with us?

Yeah, at some point you have to think that talent wins out. It will be interesting to see how they come out against Missouri Saturday. Maybe that win last night gives them some confidence to build on, and they can get back to form, but at this point who knows. If I had to choose I’d put my money on talent and they get into the tournament, but that’s just an assumption and certainly not based on recent results.

Mark Turgeon never had half the talent that this team does and still never missed the tournament. Say what you want about his recruiting, the dude can coach circles around Kennedy. He went to the NCAA tournament with a starting backcourt of Dash Harris and BJ Holmes.

I'll also point out that, ironically, I was the only one discussing this team's flaws early on in the season while everyone else was booking their final four trips. Now that some of those flaws have combined with injuries/suspensions and lost us a handful of games, it's full on melt time. Despite the fact that we're still only one game behind my pre-season predictions.

Because literally anyone could coach this team to an 8/9 seed. It's incomprehensible that a team this talented could miss the tournament, and yet we might.

Last season was as expected

If you expected to miss the NIT with Gilder, Williams, Hogg, and Davis, you're even more cynical than I am. And I'm really fricking cynical when it comes to Billy Ball.

"Expectations" need to be clarified as there are two types. Expected record and should-finish record. If you give Watkins 5 lottery picks and expect him to go 4-14, and he goes 6-12, he exceeded the expected record, but he still massively underperformed as far as the record he should have delivered with that roster. Kennedy's first 4 years and last year all delivered underachievement with respect to the second type. It's debatable whether he met your personal expected records, but honestly, if you expected him to miss the NIT with that roster, you have a pretty low opinion of his coaching skills, whether you admit it or not.

He went .500 in Conference with DeAndre Jordan. We made the tournament half the time purely based on the big 12’s reputation, further proven by the fact that we never even made it out of the round of 32 once we did get in the tourney.

He used Gillispie’s teams and recruits to do decent, recruited like crap, publicly disparaged the university, and bolted before it all came down on top of him.

DeAndre Jordan took 4 years on the Clippers to develop. Don't try that argument.

One of the factors in tournament selection is last 10 games.

The 2006 team made the dance by going on a 7 game win streak to end the regular season, then blew out Colorado in the conference tournament.

The 2008 team went deep into the Big 12 tournament final.

The 2009 team won its last 9 regular season games.

i hate to defend turgeon but one thing he did do was win when the season was on the ropes. seems like he did it every year he was here.

Jordan was raw and needed some time to develop, so we can’t blame Turgeon, but Kennedy is to blame for Robert Williams being raw and needing some time to develop. Got it.

Name one season under Kennedy besides 2015-2016 in which the team didn't fade down the stretch and finish the season with a whimper?

One of the things that Hop has continued to repeat is that the program is in real trouble in terms of recruiting right now.

I know but we should be past that with all the hard work of BCG and Turgeon. BK may have erased that though
