this is Rick Stansbury's nationally renowned recruiting and AAU skills paying off.

I sure hope someone else doesn't hire him.

His coaching abilities have always been inferior to his recruiting, but he can certainly build an impressive looking team on paper. He's a guy like Ed Oregeron, invaluable to whatever staff he lands on. It's even more evident in basketball when you only need 2-3 really good players to be competitive.

And for the record, it doesn't bother me that pat believes what he believes. My problem is with things like what you see in Olins article, the demonizing of objectivity when times are good. It's cowardly.

I'm as happy about being in the tournament again as anyone and will be glued to my TV for the next three weeks.

Now we finished the regular season on a six game win streak, with two NCAA tournament teams included in those games. Are we back to basketball coaching doesn't matter? Or did Stansbury right the ship?

The most simple explanation based on Kennedy's past precedent is that talent overcame coaching. It's really not some "gotcha" post, it simply hopes the reader isn't very perceptive.

You refuse to accept the possibility that Kennedy may have coached them up after talent failed for 5 games in a row?

Correct

Kennedy didn't just suddenly figure out how to coach in February of 2016 after four years of ineptitude. We did just this year acquire a squad loaded with talent however.

It's pretty obvious what happened

You take that back. I am trying to build up an e-reputation of being despicable

I'll likely never regard him as a great coach overall (he still has no cohesive offensive schemes despite our talent--I do hold him to the impossibly high Spurs standard, though), but he stresses dogged defense (which I love), and gets our guys to compete hard for 40 minutes plus. And obviously he's a high character individual who is willing to sacrifice his own ego in some respects to get top talent to Aggieland.

Can't ask for much more than that when you're not a blue blood, tbh.

I agree he is a high character man who doesn't deserve the negative recruiting stuff about his disease.

Easier to not consider whether your initial assumptions were incorrect, right?

Because you disagree with him? There's nothing wrong with that article.

Kennedy (and I'd guess just about anybody else) will never satisfy some of you clowns.

A) A&M is where they are only because they got lucky with recruiting. But...
If the coach wasn't able to recruit good talent, he should be fired because he's not a good recruiter.

B) The current success is due to Stansbury, not Kennedy. But if a coach can't hire good assistants, he's obviously incompetent.

C) I'm pretty sure this one came from you: Basketball is the easiest sport to coach. A moron could do it. But Kennedy's a moron and must go.

And on and on.

And kiss my big old butt for actually arguing on the rant that Frank Martin was more deserving. WTH was THAT about?

Umm... show me which college team plays like the Spurs, please?

And that's a bad example, anyway. Warriors are going to beat that butt, again. Probably because your coach is obviously no good.

We didn't "get lucky" at all, we brought in some ace recruiters to the staff who lured a five star transfer and a top 5 recruiting class the last couple years. There's nothing lucky about it, Stansbury has a reputation as a tireless recruiter who has AAU relationships everywhere.

And sure Kennedy gets credit for who he hires just as Sumlin does, but like Sumlin the question should be asked: If a coach needs elite players and coaches at every spot to succeed, what good is he? ANYBODY can win if they have great players and great assistants. The point is you rarely get sustained runs of great talent and great assistants because players graduate and great assistants get hired elsewhere.
