Noah Thomas is that dude, two long TDs against the first team defense. Not many guys that tall can run routes with his fluidity.

When they both get protection, Johnson and Weigman are not as far apart as people want to think. It’s when they’re under pressure that Weigman’s skill set lets him do things Johnson can’t. Max does know when to eat it though (sometimes to a greater extent than he should) whereas Weigman is willing to fling it and pray sometimes.

Amari Daniels is gonna limit the number of snaps Owens/Moss get more than people seem to think. He’s the best blocker and receiver of the bunch. Owens is easily the most talented pure runner though.

Our TE pass catching/FLEX game will be very strong but only Max is an SEC caliber blocker at this point. Will need to get creative in order to get them on the field as consistently as Petrino would like to.

OL was better, not great but consistently better than all last season. Bisontis and Fatheree were first team OTs FWIW, this was Fatheree’s first significant 11 on 11 action I believe.

Corner may be a bit of a concern, whoever is in opposite Chappell consistently gets picked on.

Our second and third best LBs are a true freshman and an FCS transfer. Yet to be seen if that’s good or bad.

Bryce Anderson is one of the best defensive collegiate football players people around the program have ever seen, full stop. Dude’s gonna be a top-15 pick even at a non premium position in 2025. He’s already better than Antonio Johnson. Absolutely does everything.

GBD can play like the best DL on the team in short spurts but gets gassed quickly, has to come out after 3-4 plays.

Thanks for sharing. Who was starting as the 2nd corner? Was the run defense OK?

So weird that I feel more confident in the offense than the defense this year.

McCall, Grimes and Deberry all took turns. DeBerry is probably the best of the three and McCall is the most athletic, but none are high end outside corners right now. Grimes is really a safety trying to play corner. He’s a good player but doesn’t have the hips to hang with good P5 receivers.

You’re right, it’s a strange feeling and I totally agree with you

Not me. The talent level on D is still off the charts and they're a year more experienced. If we knew how to stop the run last year, it would have been an elite defense. I expect to be not terrible at that.

I’m high on the offense because of Weigman. He’s going to be fun to watch with Petrino. BTW, the last time I felt this good about a QB at A&M was Manziel's freshman season.

It will be interesting to watch Weigman this year, since he is basically a RS fish at this point. Without the actual redshirt. Not worried about burning his shirt for a few games last year, because he won't be around long enough for it to matter.

All I want to know is who played center? I have all the faith in the world with Weigman. If Fisher doesn't start him, he's a certifiable moron.

Really doesnt sound all that different from what we saw during spring practice/end of last season (not saying thats a good or bad thing either way).

Offense should be better with more experience and different play caller. Defense should be solid on the line, but linebacker and defensive backs have some thin spots.

I think we are going to live and die by the new offense, they're gonna need to put up some more points per game as our decent, but still vulnerable defense will give up yards and points.

Is it though?

I've always drank the kool-aid for the offensive side of the ball so that never struck me as odd to be honest

Some folks are saying York will start next to Cooper, winning the job over Harris and Russell and Davis. Let's hope that a reflection of York being an incredible find, and not a reflection of the rest of LB unit.

I remember watching York’s tape last year and thinking that is a MLB - instincts, decisive. Started all four years in high school, which I didn’t know. I also watched the spring game and only one LB stood out. York

The only surprise is that they maybe playing him. He would have started by the end of the year anyway after seeing the field. Kid is impressive. See my comments months ago about him.
