It's funny that people have such high journalistic expectations of Billy. He's a fan, Texags is a fan site. Billy's whole thing started with having access to players. He's not exactly Bob Woodward.
Personally, I think the guy is kind of a genius for parlaying his fandom into a career.
But I'm just a "guinea," so what do I know?

completely agree!
Billy has leveraged his initial friendships into a business. We all should be so lucky. The beauty is that he has a never ending pool of Red arse Ags cycling into the university every 4-5 years.
Older Ags learn that the song is on repeat and move on to other pastures
He's currently in the Keven Bacon "All is Well" stage and trying to save his subscribtion income line.

Agree to disagree, he's a lifelong "bro" with no marketable real world job skills who lucked into a career where he basically gets to be a sports homer for a living.
Brandon Jones runs the business end, Liucci's mother still handles his finances (that isn't hyperbole) and Olin/Gabe handle most of the logistics of the content. Liucci writes a poorly constructed article once a week and gets up around 11 to call into the radio show a couple times a week.
I know for a fact he spends about 15-20 hours a week at the office. Basically his only value comes from the fact that he has lots of sources he can text for info, but he does t really "do" much of anything to sustain Texags as a business.

Re-read my post. I'm not sure that we disagree.

Really? I think the majority that pay for that shite are older Ags. The only people I know that pay are much older than me.

Hell, I don't know, but I know many that stopped subscribing. perhaps it's a minority, but I don't think so. The plus side for Texags is that it's a never ending stream of opportunity.

I think the problem arises when (intentionally or not) he postures himself as more than that. Not faulting him for it either--we'd all do the same thing in his shoes and at the end of the day, a lot of folks (yes, myself included) are willing to pay for his access to players/coaches. He's no expert, though. Gotta be real careful in that business because when the worm turns, it gets ugly.

I cannot avoid laughing when folks refer to Liuccu as a "journalist."
He appears to make a living doing something he enjoys. He is NOT a "journalist."

It is kind a tough spot for Liucci, if he criticizes the staff they revoke his access and he is an outsider looking in. If he worked at a conventional media outlet he could always be moved to another beat and keep his job. Not the case with his own website
If he goes easy on the staff while the team struggles then his customer base stops paying and subscription erosion begins. His overhead stays the same while his revenue starts to decrease. Once the word is out and the online momentum shifts against you it is incredibly difficult to stop it.
This site began when tiger roar went to a pay site and didn't really offer anything to justify being a pay site. It will be interesting to see how Liucci handles this

If history has any say he will whine like a little bitch about how hard his job is and how grateful we are all supposed to be to be able to pay for his inside info and insight. I figured out his MO years ago and while I have an account over there I only activated it to help out lew dog when he posted some of his woodwork over there.

I don't like the guy and I hope his site crashes and burns. The better for us here at TD.com
They being said just as an observer I am curious to see how this goes. He is in a bad spot if his subscriptions begin to decline. That kind of situation tends to roll downhill

TexAgs actually predates Liucci, so I don't necessarily want to see it crash and burn, just him.

Texags will be fine. They have an endless supply of new students, new alums, parents, and old alums who just discovered the Internet.
They've taken hits before when the program was down, and they respond with promotions or free offers. There will always be a market, simply because there's nothing else like it for Aggies in terms of scope. This isn't Louisiana or Alabama where every media outlet covers college sports, and everybody you meet wants to talk about your team.
