I've never really spent time in that portion of the state except driving through on my way to Chicago. The entire western coastline is nice, though (the less said about the southeastern portion, the better.) I'm up about 30 minutes from Traverse City. For those people here not familiar with upstate Michigan, at approximately 15,000 (yes, that's the right number of zeroes), it is the largest city up here. Bumpkin central indeed.
Yeah, you're pretty much on your own as far as finding great food. If you traveled far enough north, to the resort areas, you'll find pasties, and even pasty-themed restaurants, and those are considered a "local" food even if they're pretty much just the same thing as the traditional English dish. They're pretty damned tasty, though, so I'm not going to argue with them.

I used to travel to Michigan on business quite often and could never get a decent meal. I remember one place that looked decent and they put ice cubes in my red wine. I would ask residents, "So what type of food is famous around here?" and they would look at me with a blank stare. One time I asked that and they took me to their favorite place which was a Texas themed steakhouse kind of like Texas Land & Cattle. I just did my best to smile.

Howdy
Born and raised in Fort Worth
Currently a senior Geophysics major at Texas A&M (going for a victory lap next year though)
I grew up in a burnt orange household, but my brother and I both ended up at A&M and have since done a pretty good job converting everybody to the good side.

Howdy folks. I'm class of 2010. About to finish up a JD/MBA from ASU. Know tbird from my time in College Station. Been lurking on SECR for a while, decided that I'm sick of the gumps and drunk cajuns besmirching the reputation of our fine institution.
Grew up in SA, so I'm a fan of the spurs. I'm also always happy to see Jerry's face whenever one of his dolts does something boneheaded.

Gotcha. If I post on TexAgs my username will be an A&M running back followed by 86, like CyrusGray86/ RodneyThomas86/GregHill86/LeelandMcElroy86 amongst others.

Howdy! ISEN_AG checking in. Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2014.
Born and raised in Wimberley, TX. First gen Ag majoring in Industrial Engineering. Attended two other TAMU system schools before landing in College Station. (TAMUCC for Mechanical Engineering, TAMUG for Maritime Engineering.)
Huge SA Spurs and Texas Rangers fan. Went to my first Rangers game when I was 6 or 7. I don't follow the NFL too much anymore, but my two NFL teams are the Cowboys and Texans.
