How about this twist?
Since Dodds didn't want Mack gone, what if Dodds agrees to come back (with Red's and Joe's blessing) but only if Mack is rehired? He could sell it as a cost-reduction plan (they wouldn't have to pay for three head FB coaches, only two).

He was posturing to try to appeal to recruits since we were kicking their arse on the recruiting trail. Any coach would have to do that. I don't hold that against him
Plus I've found in the last few days when you say you feel bad for him to the face of a pissed off Texas fan it only enrages them more

Easy. They just heap all the blame on Patterson. They didn't want him and he and the search firm was in charge of the Strong hire. The fate of Patterson and Strong are tied together. And after a 2-10 season and all the hate already pointed towards Patterson after the alumni he pissed off.......hopefully you're right and they keep them around for another year of this shite show.

And too many in this thread are misunderstanding what billionaires truly value. It's not football success as much as you think. If one is going to write a 24 million dollar check to the university it has to be associated with a building or facility that will bear their name.

He's taking tickets away from student managers, and is trying to charge more after a 6-6 season
I've also heard he really struggles when it comes to speaking with the alumni and not many people at UT like him. His saving grace may be Shaka Smart (although I really do believe Strong has a great defensive mind), but I think he may be in a lot of trouble shortly if the football team doesn't pick it up. I really have no idea how the search committee Texas paid for ended up choosing him, but it could set them back another 5 years, and football wise maybe ten because of the success other programs in the state (including y'all) are having right now.

EVERY athletic decision they've made form realignment onward has been EXACTLY the wrong thing to do. Without fail. It's crazy and I'm loving it
