I got this nugget off of the ND forum
quote:
This gets back to the perennial debate over whether ND can maintain its values while remaining competitive in the current environment. If Swabrick and the BoT had an opportunity to match aTm's offer and opted not to, then this is the most obvious sign that no, we cannot have our cake and eat it too. We either have to dramatically increase investment (which the BoT isn't willing to do) or try to convince other like-minded programs to split off and form a "League for Kids Who Read Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Too".

I fricking hate ND, so if this weakens them I am gladdened.

As a Catholic who stopped going to church a long time ago, I can tell you the church has no such thing as "values". They just go with the flow with whatever benefits them at the time.

I’m with you. Ever since they got that damn NBC TV deal. F them. I don’t know how NBC has a positive ROI on that investment.
Also they were saying we were an inferior program - then somebody posted their record versus ours over the last 22 years. It’s the exact same winning percentage.

ND reactions on twitter are full on melt. That makes me feel like we got a good one. If they were chilled out I’d be worried.

They actually get decent nationwide ratings.

I agree. Lets enjoy some together.
Before the confirmation:
After the confirmation:
My favorite:
Before the confirmation:
quote:
A&M thinks they can just throw money at whoever they want and get them, which obviously is not the case.
quote:
A&M thinks that since they had a cute little run with JM that they are an elite program. They are in that second tier where they play good football and occasionally make some NC Top 10 noise.
quote:
Honestly If i'm Notre Dame and Elko ever thinks about leaving I match what any team offers him, if he stays it will be because of him if we win a national title or not in the next 3-5 years
After the confirmation:
quote:
We are absolutely screwed now.
quote:
I have zero hopes for 2018 now.
quote:
Well that was fun while it lasted.
quote:
Would be nice to get some salary caps.
quote:
Allowing a program like aTm to hire our most crucial assistant out from under us is a new low for NDFB.
quote:
If this was solely about money, Swarbrick just torpedoed the program.
quote:
Who the F trades in a coordinator job at ND to go do the same at the4th or 5th best school in the SEC West?????
quote:
Without football, ND is a school that literally NO ONE gives a **** about. How the administration doesn't see that and pay their meal ticket accordingly is beyond me.
quote:
Sign of the times. This is not about more money. When did Texas A&M become a better job than ND? Elko has a chance to work on a staff that has won a national championship. Plus, this shows he really did not like working with Kelly. No one makes lateral moves like this. If he wanted to stay at ND, ND would have paid him.
quote:
These kids continue to get worked over time and time again. Kids recruited for a certain system and style of play and now they are screwed. College football is a joke.
quote:
How do you compete with schools willing to empty the endowment to pay for their football programs while ignoring academics?
quote:
What sucks is that Elko is EXACTLY what you wanted in a ND defensive coordinator. Really smart dude, tenacious recruiter.
quote:
Fckn livid. what a complete a-hole. I don't care what the money is at some point you gotta look these kids in the face after just one year and bail on them. absolutely pathetic. incredible
quote:
NO PLEASE GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quote:
Disaster. Gives Coney another reason to leave. I've had it with ND football. Tired of hoping for things to get better and then having the powers that be let us down.
quote:
How dare Kelly say DCs are making to much money! While he sits there making 5mil plus. If wanna be cheap, then you will get what you pay for. Elko totally turned the ND defense around. ND would not be sitting here with a 10-3 record if it wasn't for the turn around on defense. Elko is worth every penny of what A&M is paying him.
quote:
let's call it an a-hole move then. He already rebuffed them once and told Kelly he was staying. dick move regardless of what A&M came back with. He could jump to that kind of money and position in one more year or so. leaving these kids high and dry after a single season is a chicken shite move and speaks to what kind of man he is. Good riddance.
quote:
And this post is moot. I'm sick of ND. Even this alum is just sick of ND.
My favorite:
quote:
Something absolutely needs to be done about salary caps. It completely destroys the parity in the sport when you have a group of cultish oil billionaires who will throw any amount of money necessary to hire the best coaches.

frick it, here is some more. They are melting way more than I thought they would, which is a great sign.
quote:
Mike Elko is dead to me. I previously hoped that A&M would burn because of how they are going about this, and now even more. I hope he gets his arse embarrassed in the SEC. And becomes a part of the biggest disaster college football has seen.
quote:
if your Notre Dame you can't get into an arms race like it's the USA vs USSR 60's-80's. You offer Elko $2.5 mil....Vlearly A&M has deep pockets and will offer $3 mil....Notre Dame can't play that game...Elko is being a job whore
quote:
Two words to fix this mess. Greg Schiano.
quote:
aTm just did to ND what ND has been doing to other programs for the last 50-60 years.
quote:
The defense impressed this year, and I know he was a big part of that turnaround. I hate the Aggies, but if he's going to make 2.5M, I can't fault the man for setting up his family like that.
quote:
If not for Kelly seeing what this guy could do and give him the opportunity he’s still coaching at Wake and not necessarily getting much attention IMO. He’s a sellout and we’ll see how he rates next year.
quote:
3 years, 1.8 Million **** you, Notre Dame
quote:
Haha, he left for that. This is complete garbage.
quote:
Elko should be put into the profanity filter, never want to see that name again
quote:
Apparently Lea is following Elko to A&M.
LINK
quote:
This is the worst thing to happen to ND football since hiring Willingham. And no, I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. We will feel the effects of this for at least two years in recruiting, and probably on the field as well.
quote:
having Elko come in for 1 year and then leave is like getting the christmas present you always wanted from Santa Claus and then having him come back the next day to rob it from your gaff while you sleep :/
quote:
Welp at least we had one good year. This was the best hire Kelly made
quote:
Everyone can spin it all they want but the reality is ND football is dead until they clean house and bring in a competent coaching staff along with an admin committed to winning.

This sums it up
Aranda hears the drumbeats of Sumlins firing and contacts A&M AD expressing interest
Fisher comes on board and follows up with Aranda after being told he contacted our AD
Fisher also reaches out to Elko who has interest but is told to wait until Aranda is sorted out
Aranda tells LSU he’s leaving due to AD cluster mess, gets record breaking DC contract to stay despite being unhappy
Elko is contacted and confirms he’s still wanting to work with Fisher
