You imagine the ratings? Maybe higher than any other game other than the title game.
I think we drastically overrate the national interest in this

Ugh. Why couldn't we have a contract clause not to play in bowl games a Big 12 opponents.

It's like going to a HS reunion and being filled with self-loathing.

Yep. Unless we have a miraculous swing in how we are playing against LSU there isn't a chance in hell we go to the Outback.

Why do I get the feeling we are going to Memphis?

...Check that, after thinking about it, Nashville.

Auburn winning today and our pathetic performance pushes us into the Group of Six bowls for certain. Gator is out, as we went there last year. Outback will start looking hard at Tennessee I think. So now we're looking at Texas, Liberty, Belk, Music City. We'll likely tell the SEC office we are not interested in playing a Big XII-2 team so that leaves Belk and Music City. So I'll go with Music City between those two.

That wouldn't shock me at all.

Out of the group of 6 bowls bowls it's the one that we went to longest ago.

12 - Cotton
13 - Peach
14 - Liberty
15 - Music City
16 - Texas
17 - Belk
18 - Gator

Theoretically we should be in line for the Outback since they are the only group of 6 we haven't gone to but I just don't see anyway we go there after ending the season 0-2 w/a 50-7 blowout loss in the final game. Perhaps if our ticket sales hadn't been so pathetic the last two years we might go to Tampa but I don't see our admin willing to be left holding the back for a 3rd year in a row with a bunch of unsold tickets. On top of that Auburn beat Bama so odds are they are the logical choice for the Outback.

So with the Outback out our 3 most likely destinations are going to be the Liberty, Texas, and Music City.

Music City and Texas are both Big 12 bowls.

Their standings are currently like this

and their bowl selection order is like this

College Football Playoff Semifinal: If Selected

1. Sugar Bowl vs. SEC
2. Valero Alamo Bowl vs. Pac-12
3. Camping World Bowl vs. ACC
4. Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl vs. SEC
5. AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. SEC
6. Cheez-It Bowl vs. Pac-12
7. SERVPRO First Responders Bowl vs. Conference USA

If Baylor beats OU in the Big 12 title game I think they are left out of the playoff and their bowls will be

Baylor - Sugar
OU - Cotton
Texas - Alamo
Oklahoma State - Camping World
Kansas State - Texas
Iowa State - Liberty

If OU beats Baylor and gets into the playoff the selections would essentially be the same with the Sooners going to the Peach or Fiesta and the Bears going to the Sugar.

If OU is NOT in the playoff Baylor would likely fall to the Alamo as the Cotton would jump all over Bama as an at large putting Texas to the Camping World, Okie Light to the Texas, Iowa State staying in the Liberty (they have a weird love affair w/that bowl), and K-State falling to the Cheez-It.

If we go to the Music City we have a 95% chance of playing an ACC school due to a shared affiliation with the Big 10.

Here are the ACC standings

Here is how the ACC selection works

Notre Dame is eligible for any ACC bowl tie-in as long as it’s within one game of the team eligible for the slot.

1. College Football Playoff Semifinal: If Selected
2. Capital One Orange Bowl vs. New Year’s Six

First Tier

– Camping World Bowl vs. Big 12
– Citrus Bowl (if top possible team is higher-ranked than SEC or Big Ten team) vs. SEC or Big Ten
– Belk Bowl vs. SEC
– Hyundai Sun Bowl vs. Pac-12
– New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. Big Ten
– Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl vs. SEC
OR TaxSlayer Bowl vs. SEC

– ACC and Big Ten combine in the Music City and TaxSlayer, with each getting three appearances in six years. The ACC played in the Music City in 2015 and the TaxSlayer in 2016, 2017 & 2018. It’s almost certainly going to be in the Music City, but can still play in the TaxSlayer.

Second Tier

– Walk-On’s Independence Bowl vs. SEC
– Military Bowl vs. American Athletic
– Quick Lane Bowl vs. Big Ten

Conditional agreements
– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl
Conditional if American Athletic or Conference USA can’t fill the spot.
– Birmingham Bowl
Conditional if American Athletic or SEC can’t fill the spot.

So assuming Clemson beats UVA and taking note that Notre Dame is part of their bowl process their selections should look like this

Clemson - Fiesta/Peach
Notre Dame - Orange
Virginia - Camping World
Virginia Tech - Belk
Wake Forest - Sun
Pitt - Pinstripe
Louisville - Music City
Miami - Independence
North Carolina - Birmingham* (SEC won't fill this game)
Boston College - Military
Florida State - Quick Lane

I could also see Pitt and Wake in the Music City FWIW.

I'd see us perhaps wanting to avoid a rematch with Louisville since pretty much nobody cared about playing them the first time though IMO it's the best non Florida destination out of the SEC bowls.

Anyway, long story short I think the 3 schools we are most likely to play in a bowl are Iowa State, Kansas State, and Louisville with an outside chance at Pitt and Wake.

I just don't think Texas will fall far enough in the Big 12's pecking order for it to happen.

I'm now leaning more towards A&M ending up in Memphis vs Iowa State.

Boston College has fired Steve Addazio which instantly puts them at the top of the list of ACC teams I would want us to play in a bowl.
