I dont care that Morris aint the guy. I've said this whole time I wanted to interview more than one coach and that to zero in on one dude like we have done in our last several hires was stupid.

Tunnel vision almost always leads to failure.

shite, until all y'all got a Jimbo boner this was exactly what everyone here was saying the same thing about our hiring process.

I'm far from the only one though most others that aren't are more upset b/c of Jameis than the contract being one giant ball of Aggie hubris.

Instead of looking at this like a 10 year contract, look at this like a 75M dollar contract. Thats all it is. And depending on when it is terminated, that is the measure of damages you have to look at. The 10 years is by far the most pointless aspect of the contract. It tells you an end date in which 75M dollars is to be paid in equal installments. The contract is for 75M. When you can process that, you can start to play with the numbers and make a genuine assessment of your exposure to risk. Our Admin did that based on some very complex formulas last week. They entered into this deal assuming the worst and assuming it occurred in year 1. Even under those circumstances, the known guaranteed aspects of the hire were justified and the hire was justified.

I'm a lawyer, I've been involved in a 100M breach of contract lawsuit before, have any of you? I was a little piss ant at the tamu legal dept when Fran was getting fired and Shermans contract getting written. I've seen how the sausage is made and I can assure you, few people who understand how terminations go are worried about the 10 years.

Yeah, when we were hiring the best coach within 100 miles of campus. Not when we're stealing national championship coaches from superior programs.

Perhaps that's because no one even envisioned we could hire a top 5 coach.

I wouldn't like that as an NU fan if he was the only guy they actually talked to.

I brought him up b/c he was the name most of the board was hot for all year long.

How did 2013 work out for Woodward at UW? Let’s not act like this is Bill Byrne or some other lackey.

literally anyone who took their first choice "only talked to one guy"

UCLA only talked to chip Kelly, Nebraska only talked to frost, we only talked to jimbo

That's how you get your first choice

But again, the difference between $50 and $75 million is minimal for a program with our resources. Why are you dying on this hill? Would you REALLY be happier if we hired him for 7 years, $50 million?

And he was under contract at FSU for NINE YEARS. We were not getting him for anything less than 10

100 miles from campus doesn't mean much when the process still came down to "Hey, I'm friends with this guy, let's go get him" just like it has with the last several hires. This time the buddy was the AD instead of a BMA. Big whoop.

Also...

We would have had a natty had we joined the ACC in 2012 instead of the SEC. On top of that, as the ACC improved Jimbo stopped winning it.

I still never got a answer from anyone on how Jimbo is a far superior hire to Les Miles and he would have been much cheaper. Even if we didn't want him at least floating out there that Les is an option should be enough to have some semblance of leverage when negotiating w/Jimbo.

But I guess it's too much to ask of our admin to do anything other than just throw money at everything.

Good god dude. I'll go ahead and bookmark this thread so you can eat crow when you realize even if it's not as good as it can be the difference is going to be night and day.

Yes. Much.

I don't think you guys have stopped to think about how badly this could screw us if he doesn't work out. I really don't.

10 years is a LONG time. A fully guaranteed 10? Better hope we aren't his retirement gig fellas.

I really don't know how to explain to you that younare wrong and that the athletic department has calculated their risk and know they can afford it.

Go for it.

I'll happily eat crow if he starts winning conference titles and gets a natty.

But if he doesn't....
