You think the DC is coming from the pros or any of the college teams that still have bowl games to go?

There is some talk about DJ Durkin over on the Rant. That would fall in line with my suggestion that Jimbo has someone in mind and, they still have some 2021/22 coaching to do.

At this point it would be pretty surprising if Durkin isnt the DC

No clue on the oline coach but its supposedly done and will be announced soon

Also sounds like santucci might become safeties coach and durkin will coach linebackers

Why would that be surprising?

I haven’t seen where it’s a done deal Durkin is being hired.

I’ll be disappointed if he’s the guy for sure. The optics from the Maryland stuff are bad and we will get negative recruited on it like crazy, I would expect us to do the same if the situation was flipped. That’s whatever and I can live with it if he’s a great DC. Nothing I’ve seen at Ole Miss suggests he’s above average. It’s tough to find any metrics (or the eye test if you watched them) that suggests he’s currently a good defensive coordinator

Hope he’s not the guy

Ole miss' 247 people are saying its likely to happen and Liucci is doing what he does without explicity saying its him

I dont know where I fall. The optics are obviously bad. But the defensive legitimate improved this year, they went from the 110s to the 30s in defensive efficiency between 2020 and 2021. And his resume as a coordinator is terrific

I dont know if hes good enough to warrant the shite we are going to get. I probably wouldnt have hired him but idk

They also went from 42nd to 118 in defensive efficiency from 2019 to 2020, which was his first year. They were make my eyes bleed bad last year defensively when they weren’t that bad the year before. I don’t care that it was a weird year or the staff was new. Ole Miss isn’t Duke or Vandy, and if you watched them play defense last year you will never unsee it. It was an abomination.

For the money we can pay and the talent we’ve stacked on defense we can do a lot better

As a whole, Durkin's resume as a DC is elite.

If you were asleep for the last six years, sure. An elite defensive coordinator does not call plays for the defenses I watched the last two seasons. Maybe our talent will make it moot, but if you look at him as a candidate objectively and think this is the best we can do you’re kidding yourself.

How so? He had some kick arse defenses at Florida, but not much since then.

2013 Florida 5th 287 ypg
2014 Florida 15th 330 ypg
2015 Michigan 4th 281 ypg

He went to Maryland, got screwed over, was out for a bit, went to Ole Miss, and somehow made them a decent defense.

(Elko, prior to A&M, has the #46 defense at ND abd three defenses at Wake that were all about #40. He did have a couple of kick arse defenses at Bowling Green.)

2015 is the last good defense he’s been a part of.

I also don’t care. The culture stuff aside it’s extremely difficult to be excited about this
