The agenda for the meeting is for consideration and action on the following item:

Consideration of any and all things leading to the selection of the President of Texas A&M University-San Antonio, including possible action to name the finalist(s) for this position and appointment of Interim President of Texas A&M University-San Antonio, The Texas A&M University System.

The BoR isn't going to meet for a DC hire

Sumlin will have full control over that

Do they not have to approve his salary?

Does Sumlin have discretion? Sure. But he has an approved budget for assistant coaches. He cannot exceed that without permission. I'm pretty sure they are going to take up a proposed assistant pool in the executive session

247 is saying that we are waiting until muschamp does something, TA is saying that venables is on the short list but at the bottom of that short list, AY is saying that we are close to locking up venables. this search

No...BOR does not approve DC salaries.

BOR does not take up exceeding budget pools in executive session. There is no "budget pool" specifically for a DC hire. If there is a limit, it's set by Athletics, and any approval will be handled by Athletics, not the BOR.

No, as a government attorney I assure you budget changes must be approved by the governing body. Athletics can't unilaterally make that decision.

Who cares about Brent. I love that Foster seems like a not so long shot after today.

Why isn't Foster a longshot? Because of Beamer's health?

I can't speak for others, but I think the reason it doesn't seem such a long shot is the recent run of poor form by VT. He has always been considered their HCIW. However, with the results lately, some believe VT will want to go in a different direction. He is due $800,000 if he stays until after their bowl game this year, so I wouldn't expect to hear anything until then if he is the guy.

I'll be shocked if we pick up foster, but wouldn't be upset.

At this point, I'm not too worried. We have a lot of names I like in the discussion, and none I totally hate.

FWIW, Liucci made a comment recently that if A&M wants Foster, he would be our DC.

Foster is the best DC in football, and has been. He isn't known for recruiting, or for ties to texas high schools like the other big 2. I think the program, Sumlin, SEC and success would make up for all his recruiting deficiencies, especially when he has us as a top 10 defense.

Living in VA for 20+ years, I've seen VT pull the top in-state talent nearly exclusively with limited exception. Not saying it is down to Foster as a recruiter, but the on-field product has produced top Mid-Atlantic talent on signing day for decades. I'd be thrilled if he was the hire.

The question here was whether the BOR had to be involved if in theory Athletics would go above budget for a DC coordinator. They would and do not. It would seem your time as a gov't attorney doesn't include time in as a university attorney. The BOR approves agency budgets at an extremely high level. A level which does not had "DC" as a line item. It's a moot point. It wasn't on their Saturday agenda. And I can assure you it never will be. I'm not disputing it would have to receive approval. I'm simply pointing it would be at the university level, not at the BOR level.
