Obviously, he played better in Q4. I wonder when he found out, as I think we all will tomorrow, that King is done. Meaning that maybe, just maybe, there was an overriding "this is my opportunity, I have to prove something " getting in the way that turned into a slightly less stressful "this is mine and I cant screw it up." Not that this speaks well for how he handles stress, but it is a thought.

I can totally see JF telling him at the end of Q3, "look, King broke his ankle. He isnt coming back soon. Stop trying to win the damn job in one play and go help us make a season. "

I think about employees I have had. Some really high performing salespeople did better on a salary than commission just because of their mental processing. Stress can motivate, but it can get in the way, too.

At the end of the day, I think we all want the guy who is motivated by the pressure (ala Michael Jordan.) But with a little heat off, Calzada may not be as bad as he was in Q2.

Not that "not being as bad as Calzada was in Q2" is going to win the SEC, or anything but Q4 Calzada at least wasnt horrific.

All of that said, I am surprised that I havent heard anyone comment on the interceptions he would have thrown against semi-competent LBs and CBs. Luck-Y. At least one LB should have taken one to the house.

Timing was bad. As bad as I have ever seen. He was behind just about everyone on crossing routes. For guys not crossing he threw high... a lot. Seemed to throw decently down the field basically on guys going away. The TD throw was great. There was an earlier pass where he hit the TE going downfield. Our receivers really struggle to get any separation.

IF he is anywhere close to accurate in Q1, Q2, and Q3 we probably have another 10-12 catches and another 7-8 first downs.

The last 2 offensive series give me hope. Of course at that point the Colorado D was getting gassed.

My first concern after seeing Calzada struggle was who is going to back him up? It's almost as though there needs to be another QB competition. Yeah I know it's too late for that. But I look forward to Jimbo's PC today to see who he chooses as a backup. Do we have any better athletes at QB on the roster?

Bost is, and will be, the backup

Jimbo needs to find a way to get the team well enough prepared and executing that Bost gets at least one drive in the NM game. Sorry, I'm a little concerned.

I think we get to see a lot in the first Q for next week. Looking good early, when NM is still fresh will tell us how the year might go.
