Was checking out the sad Baylor football forum and there are some dillusional fans that think they can convince ND, BYU, etc... to form some kind of conference with them. I know the dillusion runs deep over there but good gawd. In another thread someone posted about offering the SEC $135M to "buy" into the conference. As if the SEC would entertain it if the buy in fee was double that to $270M. They just don't get it.

Never cared that much about Baylor either way until we left the B12 and they pulled their Ken Starr shite. They spend a decade plus with hat in hand willfully being 2nd tier "take the crumbs " status from Texass and all the while spewing shite about A&M. A&M bought time, explored options, made a move and took control of our destiny.

They are not going to land in P5 confernce, they are probably FCS bound and the irony is this was put into motion around 2010 and A&M had nothing at all to do with it. This s totally lost on 80% of their shitty uninformed fan base. Good riddance on their way to complete irrelevance.

It is amazing to me that it has only been a month that the conference shite show kicked off again. Why does that feel like years ago at this point?

I say all this with no malice to Baylor graduates. I live next to two and they are nice people and great neighbors. The little football smalltalk we make is just good natured ribbing.

Baylor's problem is that they're a small private school in a rural area. There is no market for that in big boy football.

Pac12 has Stanford, which is in a major metro area.
B1G has Northwestern, which is in a major metro area.
SEC has Vanderbilt, again, metro area.
ACC has Duke, which is not, but Duke has considerably more prestige than Baylor and has a long history of dominance in a revenue sport and therefore a national fanbase.

Baylor brings nothing to the table. Absolutely nothing at all. No prestige, no fanbase, no metro area, no nothing. They never belonged in the B12 at all, they just happened to have the governor at the time as an alum. They should have been in Conf USA or the Sunbelt, where they would have fit in.

This wasn't put into motion in 2010, the motion was delayed in 1996, and its simply resuming. Baylor in a major conference was a quaint legacy of football from yesteryear: back when there were only 8 bowl games, people weren't sure if this "NFL" thing was going to stick, and you could drop M80s down storm drains on the quad and no one would call the FBI.

We decided to expand our culturally tight, tiny military college into a major university of 50,000 students, and Baylor decided to stay a small private school and even part out their medical school. Decisions like that ripple into athletics and fanbase size. All of this was going to happen eventually, it was just a matter of time.

Durham is part of the Raleigh "research triangle", which is a fairly large metro area.

Ever since the Big 12 barely escaped out of their own death spiral, Baylor's been chirping about how'd they be the kings of their new conference. That THEY'D be the shining star of the new Big 12.

Well they went 6-7 in the season after that mess. They started off decent before they fell off a ledge at the end of the season and lost to god damn Air Force (they had a 68% chance of winning that game).

Again, this realignment turnover was a succsess for the Big 12, they killed off the PAC-2. Great for the XII I guess - but here's the maddening part. You can hear the Baylor fans telling the rest of us that THEY were the reason that the Big 12 expanded. That THEY were the leader that A&M and tu never were. That THEY were going to be the leaders of the new Big 12. That arrogance you can hear all offseason from these people.

Now - they had a full house against Texas State and they laid down in tMud. They had no offense, they had no defense. Mind you Texas State HASN'T WON A GAME AGAINST A P5 IN THEIR FOOTBALL HISTORY. THIS WAS THEIR FIRST WIN EVER AGAINST A P5 OPPONENT. TEXAS STATE HASN'T HAD AN OVER .500 SEASON SINCE 2014.

They're always going to be the little brother in the state. They are owned by tu, tAgs and TCU.

Never change Baylor, Never Change....

I honestly think the remaining big 12 teams are going to be so much better off without UTrans in the conference

In the long run, they won't. The Big12 doesn't have that anchor school anymore that attracts viewers or gives them legitimacy.

At some point, the networks and playoffs are going to completely leave out the Big12. Realignment has been a precursor to the inevitable creation of a new subdivision inside Division 1.

I think you are wrong, look at the teams they’ve added, they are growing in popularity, and are in pretty big markets. They just needed to be in a big name conference to get more respect and recognition.

Cincinnati and UCF grew in popularity because they were playoff/NY6 busters. How popular are they going to be when they're not winning 10+ games each year anymore?

and are in pretty big markets.

In markets where nobody cares about them. Cougar High couldn't even sell out their first game as a "Big12" representative vs UTSA.

For the past decade, the Big12's most watched game of the week has involved Oklahoma or Texas almost every week. There have been exceptions, but the appeal of the conference really revolved around OU and Texas.

For example last year, our miserable game vs. Florida on cable had better ratings than the TCU vs TTU game on Fox. Both games kicked of at the same time. The only difference is that TCU was in playoff contention while A&M and UF had losing records.

The teams that were added only got attention when they were undefeated or playing a big brand such as Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, or Notre Dame.

Those brands don't exist in the Big12. And I highly doubt that the new schools will go undefeated at the same time every single year. If success if the only thing that keeps these schools popular, then their popularity is about to fade away.
