Elko has been my favorite hire this offseason by far (including Jimbo).
It seems like he has a lot of upside with not many downsides.
And ND people were really upset when he left, which is always a good thing.

I'd like to go on the record to say that I didn't find the hire very exciting.
Stat wise, he was not an eye-popping hire. Flame away, but I think we should have gone after someone like Venables. We broke the bank for Jimbo, why not go all out for a DC?

This to me is a pretty telling thing.
I remember when we hired mazzone after rumors of us stealing meecham from TCU and people went to UCLA boards to see what they were saying. They were all laughing their asses off and saying how no-endzone-mazzone with his playbook of 5 different plays wasn’t going to do us any good. Had a bad feeling after that and it turned out right.

I’m actually excited about our S&C. Not saying we haven’t had good guys in there. But I think this coupled with the emphasis of a more pro style offense and harder / more intense practices, might have us looking like real men out there.
I just want to see good OLine play and good form tackling.

Chavis as the 4th best hire? LOL, what? He just got FIRED for sucking. If he was good at coaching OR recruited well Jimbo would have retained him. Chavis is a good DC when he is just wallowing in talent like he was at UT during Fulmer’s heyday or at LSU where they grow top defenders like weeds. But with mediocre talent his system and tendencies get exposed and he’s too lazy to recruit the guys he needs.

I can’t tell you how pleased I was to see that ND fsns were furious about losing Elko. That means he was a good hire!

Chief hasn’t also been passed by with today’s moderns offenses. He literally had been coasting at LSU, which is why they didn’t mind seeing

It's the off-season which means I'm bored, so it's off to the Poli Board. Unfortunately, I hadn't realized that the board became one huge fricking safe space for Trump loyalists .
