I agree that it is a bit cultish of us to welcome Johnny back so easily. Don’t get me wrong, I hope the guy succeeds and gets back into the NFL, I don’t want him to be our version of vince young. But the dude had a lot of chances and wasted them all away. Maybe he’s bipolar, maybe not, mental disease is a real thing but it’s easy for people to claim mental health for a convenient excuse for their actions.

Johnny is saying the right stuff but I’ve yet to see it. Why hasn’t he signed with the CFL team yet? I read somewhere else that the team who has his contract rights signed two other QBs. I’ll welcome him back with open arms when he stays straight and gets on a team. Working out in a gym and selling comeback season hoodies doesn’t impress me much at the moment.

So you don't think this would happen with every school's best player ever?

I agree that he has had a lot of chances but if the dude is saying the right things and seems to really want to turn it around then does it really harm you to give the guy some support? Its not like you are invested in his future, other than maybe emotionally.

No it definitely happens at other schools and we aren’t the only ones. Texas still claims Vince young and Ricky Williams, LSU claims Jordan Jefferson, and plenty more out there.

I’m just a person that it’s hard to earn trust back. I wouldn’t want egg on my face if he were to potentially drop back into drugs/partying/alcoholism and then I’d feel like I had personally financed his addictions. Actions speak louder than words, it’s a cliche, but it’s true.

And I do support him, I don’t want to make it sound like I’m actively routing for him to fail. But you won’t see me buying a comeback season shirt to help him out. I just want to see him actually make a team, stay out of trouble for an extended period of time, and do well.

I think before he can do the first part he is going to have to do the second.

Manziel brought our school unparalleled acclaim and fortune. In that respect we do owe him some degree of gratitude.

That being said, he's a dipshit.

There’s no comeback happening.

- The NFL is done with him. If you haven’t figured this out, you are retarded.

- The CFL team that owns him - that he can’t come to an agreement with - just picked up TWO more quarterbacks.

- The XFL - which doesn’t even really exist again yet - has publicly stated that he doesn’t meet the moral qualifications they plan to institute because he is a criminal and a “former” drug addict.

But, he needs money now - likely because what he got from the Browns went up his nose - so, like the gypsy he is (literally, in a genetic sense) he has come up with this “comeback” apparel scheme to bilk money from embarrassingly loyal Aggie fans.

It’s pathetic that anyone is buying this con, but there’s a sucker born every minute and a reason people like Bernie Madoff are able to have success (for a time).

XFL is 2 years away... that’s too long. The CFL is his only realistic chance. Should sign but he’s thinking of all the increased revenue he will generate (at first) and if he’s good (for awhile) and I’m sure wants part of that pie. However, the history that he’s had... is a risk on their part.

He should bury the ego... and play... he’s losing time.

He is going to try and showcase himself for CFL and NFL teams at the Spring League this year.

quote:

Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel will participate in the developmental Spring League this year as part of his attempt to return to the NFL.

The Spring League announced Wednesday that Manziel has signed a deal to play in the Elite D-League, which runs in Austin, Texas, from March 28 through April 15.

"We believe our platform is the ideal forum for Mr. Manziel to enact his NFL comeback," league CEO Brian Woods said in a statement.

The Spring League consists of four teams competing in two doubleheaders, which will be played in April. According the league's website, 10 NFL teams attended games in 2017 and 22 NFL teams requested game film from last year.

The following players signed with NFL or CFL teams following their involvement with The Spring League:

McLeod Bethel-Thompson, a quarterback, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on May 23. He is currently a backup quarterback, having spent time on the injured list to start the 2017 season. Bethel-Thompson also played as a defensive back, and on special teams during the CFL preseason. Bethel-Thompson won the 105th Grey Cup with the Argonauts later in the year.

Zeek Bigger, a linebacker, signed with the Carolina Panthers on May 30, after participating in OTAs on a tryout basis. Bigger was released at the end of the preseason, but spent two weeks on the Panther's practice squad.

Manasseh Garner, a tight end, signed with the Washington Redskins on May 15 following their rookie mini-camp. Garner was cut following the preseason, but was signed to the practice squad.

Cornerback Tyquwan Glass was signed to the Los Angeles Rams on August 22. Glass was released as part of final cuts.

Tight end David Grinnage was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars just prior to the preseason on August 14. Grinnage did not make the team, but was given a spot on Jacksonville's practice squad.

Defensive lineman Calvin Heurtelou was signed by the Green Bay Packers on August 21. Heurtelou was waived after the preseason.

Daje Johnson, wide receiver, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. After playing the first three weeks of the regular season on the practice roster, Johnson was promoted to be the starting returner for Week 4. After playing two games, Johnson was placed on the injured list, and was later released on August 9.

Wide receiver Jalen Saunders signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on May 23. After two weeks on the practice roster, Saunders made his CFL debut in Week 3. Saunders finished the 2017 CFL season with over 1,000 yards receiving.

Quarterback Ricky Stanzi signed with the Calgary Stampeders on May 16 as a backup quarterback.

Tani Tupou, a fullback/defensive tackle, signed with the Atlanta Falcons on May 14 following their mini-camp. Tupou was the first Spring League player to be signed by a professional team. Tupou was released after the preseason, but was signed to the Falcon's practice squad. He spent time on the active roster as well this year.

Wide receiver Griff Whalen was signed by the Baltimore Ravens on July 21, following his participation in the Summer Showcase game. Whalen was released following the preseason, but later spent two games with the Ravens before being cut again.

Painfully accurate.

I'm not rooting for him to fail or anything, but he is the sole party responsible for the situation he's in. As such, I'm mainly just hoping he doesn't pull some new off the field stunt now that he's back in the news again.

If he makes it back to the NFL, great. If not, great.

I don’t root for anyone to fail in life, but I’m old enough to have been taught by life that people don’t change.

This comback apparel thing is very similar to when snake oil salesmen used to roll into town in a wagon hawking their medicine show. Johnny literally sold that crap out of a trailer. It’s hilarious. Hard not to think of this:
