What a colossal mistake he’s made. Wow

I know it's not popular here to give Sumlin any excuses but man oh man did he ever get burned hard by the trio of Kenny Hill, Kyle Allen, and Kyler Murray. All three were prima donnas who demanded to be the unquestioned starter or they'd transfer.
Kyle may have been the biggest punk of them all b/c he was looking to transfer his freshman year when he was beat out and only stayed b/c Kenny melted down and got benched. Dude had one foot out the entire time he was here.

KA was a bitch quite a bit towards the end but he wasn't always like that imo, shite he kept going out while injured against OM when the midget bitch was on secret suspension. I believe one of KS and his staffs biggest problems revolved around making high school kids into productive young men both on and off the field, for every Reynolds or Hall that actually got better than their HS ranking there were a half a dozen that regressed especially the high 4 and 5* guys. Kirk seemed to be going down the same road with his fall off in production this year. Things haven't changed much in the decades since I was that age, the teachers and coaches who were hard asses and made you do things the right way made you better in the end even though it pissed you off at the time. Not many can pull off being very successful and being a players coach.

Reynolds had coaches in JUCO. Can't put his success on Sumlin.
As a matter of fact, the most successful players we had either came from Coach Price, had raw athleticism, or were coached by someone else (JUCO). Sumlin never developed anyone. His 2010 Coogar High season warned us, but we got honey dicked by Manziel.

Kyler Murray
Are the rumors of boosters pushing Murray to Sumlin true? I remember reading that Sumlin wasn't all in on recruiting Murray, but a few boosters pushed Murray because he was legacy, he reminded them of Manziel, and they didn't want him anywhere near Texas and Charlie Strong.

Yes, he was shoved down our throats for strictly PR purposes
Posted on 1/11/18 at 3:33 pm to Mr. Elvert
I have a dream scenario of us facing him in a bowl game next year or the year after

The entirety of Aggiedome pushed Kyler on Sumlin. Damn near everyone freaked out when that little shite decommitted and started talking to Strong. Several people ehre were saying he should be fired if Kyler didn't come.
Basically we all got mind fricked by him b/c he was the son of a guy on the short list for GOAT Aggie QB pre Johnny, went undefeated at Allen, and seemed like he could be the next JFF. Once he lifted his skirt for Strong... yea, there was no way Sumlin was ever going to be allowed to lose Kyler. Our Aggy egos could not have handled it.
In retrospect the very fact that he picked Texas to talk to should have been a 4 alarm fire of a warning sign that he was going to be a problem and he should have been dropped immediately.

He was undefeated at Allen because of the loaded team he was surrounded by, Sarge will remember me griping about KM when it happened and the fact I wasn't a fan of his

Oh for sure. In hindsight it's obvious. shite, Allen should be in the state title game every year simply b/c of the size of the school. They dwarf damn near everyone in Texas.
He was a legacy to the former GOAT Aggie QB and we got our panties in a twist b/c WE RUN THIS STATE and we under no circumstances were willing to lose him to Texas.
Even had he been dumped, there isn't much of a guarantee Kyle still wouldn't have been a baby though.
Like I said before, as a true freshman he was looking at transfer options simply b/c he lost the starting job to a sophomore who had already been in the team's system. That screams entitlement and it's really not surprising that he pitched a fit when Sumlin wanted to have a QB competition going into the bowl the following year.

I'm not in that loop but Sumlin had no choice on that recruitment. 43 wins in a row, Gatorade Player of the Year, 3 state championships, and oh yeah he's the son of the most dynamic player A&M ever had before JFF. If he had NOT come to A&M that would have been the end for Sumlin, especially if he'd gone to t.u.

The whole class was on the verge of falling apart when he decommitted and many thought it would if he did flip to UT, a lot felt guys like Holton Hill, Kris Boyd and maybe even Malik would be swayed to A&M if Murray and Mack stuck with Sumlin but they ended up at UT anyway and I don't think any of them ever played in a bowl game. I believe Sumlins hands were tied with Murray for a number of reasons, I'd heard if he had his way he would have picked Stidham. Not sure I can defend him for skipping on Stidham a second time last year though even if would have cost him Mond.

I kinda sorta agree but think back to his recruitment. Sumlin would not have survived losing him. Pretty much the entire fanbase was losing its mind over his t.u. visit and calling for Sumlin's head. I don't think anybody realized at that time what a little shite he'd turn out to be.
