Sure, which is why I said 2-3 years is a realistic timeline. This cuts both ways and is why an 8-4 type year next season just isn’t acceptable. Georgia and LSU have both appeared in national title games out of the SEC on the back of recruiting classes like we have on campus as well.

The talent gap is still there in several positions.

Sure, but you don't have to fully out talent someone to beat them or win a title.

In 2021 we were the 8th most talented roster. We didn't sniff the top 8. Once they crunch the #s again, I would expect to move to 4th or 5th ahead of Florida, Oklahoma, & Lsu.

We really just need to get close and have a QB hit. There is so much a good QB can do to a program. VY took tu over a super talented USC team. Cam single-handled raised Auburn from good to champion. Johnny took a team expected to be .500 to #5 overall. Jimbo needed Winston to win it all. Clemson finally started to hang with/beat Bama with Watson. Lsu turned from good to goat with Burrow. Mac developed and topped Lsu the next year. And the examples go on and on and on.

One of these has to hit.

Jimbo has been here long enough that he should be contending for a division title at minimum but the schedule is crazy hard this year so I expect at least 3 regular season losses if not more. I wouldn’t be shocked at 2-2 OOC if the defense stinks or the QB play remains inconsistent.

I think 9-3 would be a fair expectation for 2022. Sorry but the pieces just aren’t all in place yet

I agree with this expectation

We won’t do anything great this season but expect big things in the next two years has been the mantra since Mike Sherman was coach.

Maybe, but there are always years when you see something coming together and expect to be really good.

2-2 OOC would be shocking, imo.

We've had some embarrassing stretches in the last 20 years, but coming off 4 straight top 10 classes (including the best in the history of the sport) led by insanely well-paid coaching staff, starting 1-2 this year would possibly take the cake.

The whole point of Jimbo is that we are supposed to expect to be contending every year. At this point he’s really been no better than Sumlin. IDGAF about being number 1 in recruiting. I want on field results. I want to be wrong to think Jimbo was lucky to be in a shite ACC when it’s was still a one game championship BCS and that we didn’t pay out arse for a guy who looked like he was a year away from getting fired.

I mean... App St is no joke and Miami has a ton of talent. If the QB play poor or the defense is terrible those could easily be losses. shite, we barely beat a moribund Colorado last year and we were the more talented team at every single position by a good margin.

W/how little room for error Jimbo’s system often leaves us I just don’t see how anyone could be confident we sweep OOC.

This is crazy. Sumlin was basically clueless after he lost Manziel and all the 1st Round OL.

Evem of you ignore him previously winning a national championship (and a bunch of other shite he accomplished before getting to A&M), Jimbo has already shown he has much more in his bag of tricks.

I’m 100% going to ignore everything he did elsewhere. IDGAF that he won a title over 10 years ago at FSU when most of our players were in grade school and no other Aggie should give a rats arse about that either. I care about what he’s done here and it’s just not all that impressive considering all the hoopla and adulation thrown his way. He’s gone 9-4, 8-5, 9-1, 8-4 and the Orange Bowl season has a massive asterisk next to it due to COVID and how our schedule broke. Sumlin was 11-2, 9-4, 8-5, 8-5 in his first 4 years. One big year that was aided by a lighter than expected schedule and a bunch of meh. Not all that different TBH.

I’m not sure what bag of tricks you’re referencing either since he’s shown zero ability to adjust his plodding offense and predictable play-calling.

Lead by a heisman QB, and elite WR and one of the best OLs in college football. After that he started to fall off.

how our schedule broke
Pre season everyone was dogging A&M for how tough of a schedule we drew in terms of adding UF who was good at the point in the season we faced them and Tennessee, I remember MANY cfb pages and podcasts talking about how that was gonna be a tough matchup. As far as I'm concerned there's no asterisks that season.

quote:

He’s gone 9-4, 8-5, 9-1, 8-4

Lets stop acting like Jimbo inherited a gold mine when he came here. The program was down bad, that's why he got hired. Yes he needs to start achieving more and to me the clock starts now, he's stacked great recruiting classes and the culture should be set moving forward lets see what the next 2-3 years looks like. His players are in the program now, so to me moving forward there's no more excuses

Winning is a combination of coaching, talent and luck. Unfortunately for us there are a pair of juggernauts in our conference - Alabama and Georgia. Last year they were #1 and #2 on 247 Sports Team Talent Composition list. Nick Saban is the GOAT. Kirby's win percentage is 81.6, which is third among active P5 coaches. In 2022, I'm expecting us to be second in the West.

In the near future, we have a couple of things working in our favor. First, the average life expectancy in the US is 79 years. Saban is 70. That SOB has got to retire or die soon! Second, NIL has changed the recruiting game. Nobody in the SEC is going to out spend us. In three or four years, I expect us to have the most talented team in the SEC. Then we will be competing for titles.

Or maybe it's b/c you looked in his bag and saw there were indeed no tricks.

Is Max Johnson running wild a good thing or a bad indicator of our defense?
