Damn, that's a good question.
*OK. In the modern era, the Brewers are the only other team to switch leagues. They have an AL pennant but no NL title. Don't know about the early years, but for all practical purposes, the Astros are the first.

Oh, so now everyone is a lifelong Astro fan? .
I swear, everyone at midtown was wearing their Astro shirts last night as if they've been fans since they were born. Half of these people probably don't even know what a "fly ball" is .
Houston is a bandwagon city.

I am torn between rooting for Choke City and rooting for a team from Califonistan.

People better not get excited when a team from their city is good!!!!

I don't know, San Antonio seems to be pretty damn consistent with cheering for the Spurs.
Houston? Not so much with their teams.

I wonder if that is related to the Spurs always being good

It's not just the Spurs. The Cowboys, Texans, Spurs, Saints and, to a lesser extent, Texas Rangers seem to have a consistent fan base in their cities. Sure, they all have spikes when they're good. But not like the Astros.
The Astros have gone from scoring a double zero in tv ratings a few years ago to the entire city being "lifelong" fans . Everyone around here only cared about the Texans. Baseball only started to matter when the Astros reached the ALCS. I'd go as far as to say that most people wearing Astros shirts today still didn't really care during the ALDS.
We're just a terrible baseball city full of bandwagon fans when it comes to Baseball and Basketball.

I just don't understand people like you trying to shite on folks who are excited about a team from their city being successful. If the Astros are good again next year and those same people are still excited, are they still bandwagon fans then? What about 5 years from now? Where is this arbitrary line drawn?

Last night was incredible. This has been such a fun team to watch. Was in 7th grade when we went in 2005, and it’s awesome being out in the city to experience everything.
As far as the comments above, of course the Spurs fandom is going to be consistent. Basketball is a more popular sport, they are always good, and that’s the only pro team in the city. I still remember seeing countless brand new rangers hats and shirts in CS when they went on their tear in 10/11, and I would bet they couldn’t name more than 5 players before the playoffs. Seems as though your opinion of Houston Sports is weighing more heavily in your argument than anything else. Comparing the Astros to two of the most prestigious/successful teams (spurs/cowboys) in their league history isn’t very fair.

You do realize that was because they screwed up the tv contracts right?

I don’t have time to listen people whine about fan bases and tv ratings. My ‘stros killed it. We’re going to the WS and have a decent chance at taking it. It’s too bad we finished 2 games behind LA because home field might be the deference. We’ve done nothing but destroy teams at MMP this postseason. I have to say the crowds there have been ridiculous.
