We still have Brice Doleazal who will only be a Jr next year at RB and it is probably the easiest position to convert someone to play. It's also a selling point for '16 if we have availability and True Freshman can typically make an impact at RB more than any other position. We also run a Single Back offense and often go 5 Wide.
I am far more concerned about our lack of depth at QB than RB. Even if Kyler is there in the Fall we will have only 2 Scholarship QB's. That's scary.

Anyone heard anything about Corey Helms? He should be visiting now right?

Hence, why I said scholarship RBs. Chance Gray, Brice Dolezal, Blaine Townsend, and Kameron Yellin are all walk-ons. Do you really want Dolezal to be our third-string RB? I sure don't. We can hope for a Fournette or Chubb, but those instant-impact backs aren't exactly falling off of trees, and we don't exactly operate a power running offense to entice them to come here.
My entire point was that the staff dropped the ball on RB recruiting. Anderson decommitted in April; yet, we didn't step up our RB recruiting until recently. Why did we wait until 2-3 weeks before NSD to offer Warren? Why are we only now trying to get Soso on campus for an official? The QB situation is different. No one could've known that Kenny Hill would encounter his issues and not be invited back to the team (according to tmc). Again, this is about recruiting, what the staff had information about and when, and what they did or didn't do when they knew.

Maybe you missed it but we just got a new run game coordinator that likely shifted our priority on RB's, that's why we have just put the priority back on it.
FWIW I hope we can land this guy, he looks like a beast of a RB:

Again, you have completely missed my point. I'll go ahead and reiterate:
This "renewed emphasis" on RB recruiting essentially supports my contention that up until this point, the staff has dropped the ball. If you want to disagree and believe that the staff has done a sufficient-to-good job recruiting RBs this cycle, that is your prerogative.

Staff screwed up RB recruiting. Situation can still be rectified, but NSD is only two weeks away. Running out of time.

Sweet news from Perroni:

The Wake Forest center transfer is still on his official visit to A&M. He leaves on Tuesday.
Things are going very well and I'd call A&M the leader here. I don't think it likely does happen but there could be a chance he does indeed cancel his other visits and enroll at A&M by Friday in order to be in school this semester.

The Holton Hill stuff is huge. I thought it was too late to jump back in since we put all our eggs in the Sheffield basket and pretty much cut off contact for the most part since early December. Most kids take that as an insult, even though as Michael Corleone says: "Its not personal, Mr. Hill, just strictly business". But that's what I liked about Hill in the first place... his maturity level is already years ahead of others. He understands that aspect of recruiting and he was receptive to sit down with Sumlin and Chavis. Even this late in the game. I still don't think right now he signs with us, but gotta admire that kid. To win him back over is adjacent to the Seahawks victory over the Packers. It can still get done. Will be interesting to follow this one...

Obviously, Coach Sumlin used the "Break the Lock" option...

I think we are just on different pages on the RB situation. Would it be better to have another stud committed? Sure, I just don't see it as some massive failure and desperate situation. I'd still rather take someone at several other positions over RB at this point.
In the end for 2015 we have 4 quality RB's on scholarship and a decent walk on as 5th String. For 2016 that drops to 2 with a walk on but we should have no trouble getting 2 in the next class if we make it a priority. Part of the issue as well is the guys we are talking about are all good backs but none of them is Adrian Peterson or Fournette. Whomever we took is almost a lock to be a RS.
Now if we are talking CB recruiting I completely agree we were foolish in going all in for Sheffield. We are hurting at the position and it is much harder to convert a player to be a quality CB. Even if we had gone in hard early and gotten both Boyd and Hill to commit and then later got Sheffield we could either make room or easily pushed one of them out by pointing out that PT was questionable.
The thing that puzzles me more though is that we aren't taking another QB. I am very nervous about putting all our eggs in the Kyle/Kyler basket when Kyler could still go MLB or even bolt at the last minute. Then we would have 1 scholarship QB, best case we only have 2 and it is entirely possibly whomever doesn't start next year wants to transfer again. At a bare minimum we need to recruit a couple of quality Walk Ons after signing day.

If Kyler doesn't sign, I imagine DCS would be on the QB depth chart. As much as we all love McQueen, he would get literally killed.

We've added FB Marshall OT Sam Awolope to the OV list this weekend. His brother goes to A&M and he mentioned a long time ago when he committed to Rice that he would love an A&M offer and it was the only thing that could keep him from Rice. This apparently wasn't true as he flipped to TCU in December, but it should tell you where things stand with him.
I don't think we'd bring him in if we weren't planning to offer. We'll probably be reviewing his transcripts and measuring him when he comes in (insert CGSC melt here because we actually try to project how big a guy will get). I'm not sure we need another tackle, but he's a late riser who had a great SR year. Provided everything checks out, I expect him to flip to us this weekend.
247 just re-ranked him by the way and here's their blurb on him

He’s relatively new to the game of football and he has a lot of weight still to add so don’t expect Awolope to be a day one starter but we think he has as much upside as any offensive lineman in the 2015 class.

At QB: agree that Kyler leaving for MLB or decommit is risky, but that's the way QB recruiting go. All the decent ones committed last summer and most aren't looking to flip. It's a position where if you're good and aren't playing, then you're transferring. Period.......for 2015, if Allen gets seriously injured out multi weeks, then we just burn Murrays redshirt. Sucks, but necessary in a bad situation. If they both get hurt and forced to use 3rd string, then the SEASON IS OVER and nothing no longer matters. DCS, RSJ, Speedy Noil, McQueen and any preferred walk on or whoever the staff thinks is best would be just fine at 3rd string........still, gotta get a QB in the 2016 class(that will likely transfer anyways)
Completely agree on RB. Currently, we're good for 2015 with 4 good ones. 2016 we won't just have 2. We'll get 2 more in the 2016 class that are highly rated and the only difference is they won't have a redshirt year, they'll just have to come in ready to play like RB's all throughout the conference do as true freshmen.
The defense is still the concern. Back 7 and especially CB. Unless it's a Juco stud like Martin, those guys need time to develop. Our secondary is TERRIBLE. It won't matter how good our 3rd and 4th running backs are if we get ran through on defense like the town whore. We can't wait till next year to get better secondary player. We did the SAME DAMN THING in last year's cycle when we struck out on all our safety's and end up with a filler player like Wilson. We're very fortunate that Watts looks like a gem

Do you think this is kind of weird considering our needs at other positions? Also, if we really wanted another OT, why didn't we push for Weathersby?
