If ground can’t cause fumble why can it cause an incompletion. Should be consistent

If a WR jumps up catches the ball and loses it when he hits the ground it's incomplete. The ground can't cause a fumble when a player already has possession

Dang, that really is profound. I seriously think that you just changed my mind about something on the internet. Congratulations!

Had two points of contact on the ground before he lost the ball. By rule incomplete, but the guy caught the ball.

I assume they count “surviving the ground as the “football move”

Agreed. The ground should be able to cause fumbles, too.

He had possession. It was the ground that knocked it out.

Because the person who fumbles already has possession. The ground doesn't cause the fumble because he is already down by the ground first.

The receiver has to establish possession, irrespective of the ground or anything,

It's the same reason a receiver can "catch" the ball for a split second and if a defender swipes it, it is incomplete, not a fumble. Possession has to be established to make the pass a complete pass.

Establishing possession takes time and completing the act of catching the pass, and making a football move. If going to the ground is part of the act of catching the pass it must be completed through that.

Well what the hell ends the play? That should have been a completion and that's it. Its a dumbass rule caused by the Dez fiasco years ago. You would love rugby.

I know the current rule. Doesn’t mean it is good rule
