Please help me with a play from Mizzou-Texas Game (Not the Fumble/Incompletion)

This was the play before the fumble/incompletion.
The guy the refs said was in the vicinity was the guy by the sideline at the 50, so no intentional grounding. Arch made no attempt whatsoever to throw the ball in his direction.
This call is so bad, I almost think there’s a vague rule I’m missing. Like is the rule for “in the vicinity” different if the alleged receiver is behind the QB?
I can’t make any sense of this play?????

Outside the tackle box and past the line of scrimmage. Not grounding

It landed 3 or 4 yards short of the line of scrimmage.

You can argue what player is in the vicinity but it’s clearly by one the LOS

This is one of many calls that will go under the radar from that game ...
Textbook grounding. Didn't reach LOS. Receiver 5 yards behind target. QB about to get murdered.
But Tejas ...

I think this is the only call that was wrong in favor of Texas

Just add this to the laundry list of how Mizzou got defeated by crooked officials. Texas just happened to be there for it.

Said when it happened that is grounding and the RB wasn’t anywhere near the throw. A terrible call

The explanation had nothing to do with intentional grounding, he said there was no penalty for a man down field because the ball landed behind the line of scrimmage
I thought it should have been intentional grounding, but the sideline ref immediately pointed to the running back and thought he was close enough

Remove replay booth and call a good game, Mizzou wins this game. tx isn’t very good on offense.

No, he also said there was no intentional grounding because there was a receiver in the area.
He said it real quick, Jesse Palmer missed it too.
Thanks all! I’m just glad there wasn’t an obscure rule here I didn’t know about. Thought I was going crazy for a second…..
