re: I can't believe this is actually real. This is almost as bad as Alabama's NC claims.

So why stop at adding 4? Why not add 40?
it does seem like very little brother behavior to try to look relevant to Alabama in a period where they have fallen below Vandy as the worst team in the SEC. A loss in the iron bowl and VU win over Tennessee puts AU in last place in the SEC over the past 5 seasons (NIL era)

If we were all this pathetic it appears there’s 4 unclaimed national championship years for LSU that we don’t recognize. 1908 is a real conundrum though because NCAA recognizes it as an LSU NC year but the school chooses not to. Literal exact opposite scenario from AU here

Alabama claims like, half their championships in seasons where they didn't play a bowl or lost.

So, in order to be a national champion, you had to play in a bowl and win it? What’s funny is that from 1936-1964, 1966-67, the AP named their champion BEFORE the bowl game and the UPI from 1950-1973 BEFORE the bowl game.

Correct. At that time Bowl games were like all-star games. They were vacations and a reward. Some coaches used them as scrimmages.

As others have said: There has NEVER been an actual national champion in college football because there has never been an actual playoff. I don’t care if 10 teams claim 2010 National Championships alongside Auburn’s. It’s all pageantry anyway. The only people that it matters to are recruits. And those guys already believe Auburn’s are legit. Cherry on top is that our rivals hate it. Good.

If USC can claim 2003, Auburn can claim 2004. There is no difference.

The difference is that while both teams can claim a championship, only one team was awarded a championship.

Auburn stipulates it is deserving of a share of the title based on that season's David Montgomery Full Season Championship poll, which named the Tigers' 9–0–1 (6–0–1 SEC) record as its national champion. While Auburn's claim may appear reasonable, there is no documented evidence that such a poll ever existed, making it more of a desperate grab at relevancy.

If you don't have the trophy, it's not legit.

C'mon man, Alabama had to have made their own trophies for about 7 or 8 of those "titles".

Yeah, but they also didn't let black people play back then, so that's 2 pretty stupid things that were done for a long time that we've fixed now.

It certainly seems like it.

UAB and Troy should probably claim 1 each for beating national championship coaches in Saban and Orgeron.

Again, not Alabama’s fault. You can’t deny a championship that was awarded by a major selector based on the system at the time. Only the 1941 claim is not legit and Alabama fans on here admit that.

See that's not true either. That stadium was built with Louisiana tax dollars.

Take it up with Notre Dame, they are the ones that started that shite.

The back story: In the mid-1980s during the Ray Perkins era, then-Alabama sports information director Wayne Atcheson added five pre-Bear Bryant national titles to the Crimson Tide’s media guide: 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934 and 1941. Alabama’s 1982 media guide, the last season for Bryant, listed 1934 as the only pre-Bryant national championship, thanks to a footnote of Alabama’s SEC history. In the year-by-year results in the 1982 media guide, only Bryant’s six national titles were listed. Once Atcheson made the changes, Alabama claimed 11 national titles.

I guess it is a good thing the Rant wasn’t around back then.
