I think so..I mean I get it, he felt the internet street cred dopamine rush and tried to blaze his own path (which hardly ever works). He continues to double down now. I don’t doubt he has a sauce but he’s put himself in a tough spot.

And if it turns out Kiffin is hired (and he really did have a good source) everyone will say he just guessed right, that he was reading the same stuff everyone else was and got lucky, that he has no source.

It’s a losing proposition for those who may really have a source, unless intimate details that only the killer would know are given along the way.

there has been serious mutual interest for awhile, but all sides agreed to hold off until the bye week. here we are.

True. And to my knowledge only Verge has said LSU is willing to wait to get the right coach. OM apparently isn’t willing to wait, and UF fans have been all over the place saying it’s done.

Just speculating of course, I have no fricking clue.

What re the Florida folks saying? Kiffins were in FL, too, correct?

Right, he’s making his trips, or his family is, quickly. He’s got to decide, UF or LSU, or stay in MS.

I’m not implying it’s LSU or UF, just that this is why he’s reportedly going to make a move before the playoffs - he has no choice.
OM got caught up in the rampant rumors, namely the UF rumors that came to a head last week. They reportedly have had an extension offer on Sexton’s desk for weeks. No resolution. The media peppers Lane with rumors he’s considering leaving, Lane deflects.

OM starts to “panic”. If he’s leaving and not saying he’s going nowhere they have to get their ducks in a row since so many teams fired coaches mid season and are buying from the same rack OM would.

So they approach Lane and Sexton for an update. Lane says he doesn’t want to discuss it now, that he can’t answer without having actually evaluated things and done his due diligence.

OM says fine. Make your visits, talk with whomever you need during the bye week. Make a decision and let us know by X date so we can move forward either way. No breach, just do what you have to do to make a decision.

That’s where we’re at. He has until say Wednesday to let OM know.

And this would answer why in the midst of a playoff run would he take another job. His hand has been forced. Hopefully he decides going to Ole Miss’ big brother and kicking their arse every year is the best revenge!
Chicken, can we keep the CC board viewable, no posting, just viewable after all is said and done?! It’d be nice to be able to read through it randomly when I need to be cheered up.

But I'm curious why aren't they putting fillers out there to see who would be interested in the job

I would imagine they are putting out feelers on some level. It would be malpractice not to be planning for all possible scenarios.

Honestly why would Kiffin leave OM now?

If you believe what he said on Monday there are 3 reasons specifically:

Will he? Only he knows. But this is why he would.

That's the automatic extension of his existing contract terms,

Can you imagine LSU including a 7-win threshold for an auto extension in a coach’s contract? I don’t think they’d do that for 9 wins.

Different expectations, different standards.
quote:

I don't think he's leaving either and he will be the highest paid coach. They will give Lane the guarantees he wants and spend the money in the portal as he wants. He will be highest paid alongside guarantees. He stays at Ole Miss. They will break the bank for him. Ole Miss is not poor. If he walks from Ole Miss it's because he doesn't want to be there. Not because he can get more resources/money at LSU. They'll match that at Ole Miss and give him the money he wants in the portal/NIL. LSU doesn't offer him anything more than what they're going to give him so better start looking for someone else. He's going to leave you at the altar.

At his Monday press conference LK talked about NIL being a big driver in CFB now. But he then threw out a big “however”. He said once you get kids on campus they’ll ask 3 things: how big is your stadium, how many Heismans have you won, and how many national championships have you won. Those are often the tie breakers. And that’s what sets LSU apart, significantly, from OM.

LK might just be throwing us all off the scent. Only he knows what means most to him. But I see a competitor who hates to lose. So staying somewhere he’s comfortable 7-8 wins a year will mean stability isn’t likely to fuel his competitiveness. And on a consistent basis he’ll be able to recruit top 5, top 10 classes at LSU. It is what it is.
The Lane to UF rumors may have some legs to them… #jorts

Of the rumored choices, if he doesn’t choose LSU, the best scenarios to me are, in order of preference:

1) go to NFL, get him out of SEC, CFB
2) go to other CFB program not in SEC
3) go to Florida, get him away from annual rival
4) stay at OM

Standards were a tad lower back when Hallman was here.

100%. To drive home the point, LSU hired Dinardo as his replacement. Dinardo’s HC experience consisted of 4 season with records of 5-6, 4-7, 5-6 and 5-6; 9-22 in SEC games; and a 65-0 loss in his final game before being hired by LSU.

Of course not long ago we did hire a coach who’d gone 10-25, 3-21 at OM. Worked out in 2019, but…
Sounds to me like there’s pushback, and he’s crawfishing.
Blah blah blah, bury your head in the sand. It’s a horrible look for LSU and piles on the Landry fiasco. Most places would have fired Verge for what he did. We send him to sensitivity training and promote him to AD with no search. And say what you want and minimize the consequences of a negative news article, negative press. But if enough media gets involved exposing what happened LSU looks bad. It’s avoidable, but LSU is inviting it in. And I hate to see it.

USA Today salivating.

They posted a scathing article when he was appointed interim. I can only imagine what’s next.

I think there is going to be significant negative press and pushback on this. I almost wouldn’t be surprised if LSU has to backtrack on this decision. There’s no good response or excuse.
