My theory is that he's not a bad coach, but that when he took over Memphis he was taking over a well oiled machine built by someone else. He hasn't had to build something from the frickin' cellar and spent way too much time focusing on stupid shite like this. I still think he is a good coach, but he just wasn't prepared for what he was getting into here.
