There are more people in Metro Atlanta that the entire State of SC.

Of course Al and La have smaller populations than SC so there goes that theory...

Never? They’ve had some good classes through the years but now UGA and Clemson are killing it. Plus they had a lame duck coach this year.

They had basically zero chance at a good class with Clemson, UGA, and UNC all recruiting at a high level, then you throw in a lame duck/fired coach and there you have it.

I mean they have in the past.

As noted, they are are now dealing with

- Clemson
- Georgia
- North Carolina

All operating at maximum capacity. So, their home turf of East Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina is basically barren for them.

That means they have to go into Atlanta and compete for the secondary players there with Auburn, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, etc etc. Then they have to go into Florida and compete for secondary players with basically everyone. Or they can go to the DMV and recruit against Maryland, Penn State and Ohio State who are all locking stuff down there.

It's a tough recruiting gig right now.

They probably can't get a top 10 class, but top 25 every year is absolutely in reach. You don't need 5* guys to bring in solid classes.

Which is basically what they were doing under Muschamp

2016 - #25
2017 - #21
2018 - #18
2019 - #21
2020 - #19

And even back under Spurrier

2009 - #14
2010 - #34
2011 - #17
2012 - #15
2013 - #20
2014 - #19
2015 - #20

They've been a #20-25 recruiting program for a decade or so.

Have you ever noticed how many in state players that are lower to mid level 3 stars guys SC has had that blow up in college and the pros? I believe the state has lots of overlooked talent. Recent example-"Debo" Clemsin being good has them recruiting on a more national level. That doesnt hurt. SC actually got most of who they wanted instate under Muschamp. When classes get reranked it always seemed like the ranking improved, sometimes dramatically

Good research and data. Spurrier was able to have some success recruiting like that, but he is a HOF coach.

If Cary, North Carolina was in South Carolina, it would be the largest city in the state.

Location has little to nothing to do with it. Clemson is in south Carolina too.

Here's the deal, If you have a chance to play at a traditional power and possibly win a title you don't go to south Carolina. Tradition means a lot more than people give it credit. Look at college basketball. Kansas, duke, Kentucky, north Carolina, etc, are always ranked high in recruiting. That's not coincidence. People say, look at Clemson. Clemson has always been a good program. Won the 81 national title. They've always been competitive nationally. Always been bowl team. South Carolina has not.

But who is your current HC? That isn't looking good for South Carolina right now.

How you view the newly hired Beamer? Is he going to get it done? That is a tall order for him with no HC experience. If he can get some ace recruiters and start recruiting right away. Right now it is not looking good for South Carolina.

Beamer is a great recruiter, but more importantly he’s a great talent evaluator.

He had a ton of success in the DMV and in South Carolina.

Both AL and LA populations are slightly less than SC. SC is ranked 23, AL is 24 and LA is 25. So your point is moot.
