I appreciate you saying that there is a logical reason that a recruit would choose Ole Miss over Alabama.
It's also possible that a recruit and his family connects better to our staff. Saban is clearly a great coach, but he doesn't seem to be the most personable guy. Some recruits might not mind that, but others could feel differently. There are a number of factors that could influence someone's decision. If it was solely a bidding war, I find it hard to believe that other programs couldn't just outbid us.

You know what I noticed is missing from this list?
What's missing is "better, more genuine connection between the coaching staff and the recruit's family, established after a lot of work getting to know the family and presenting themselves as trustworthy and a place of opportunity."
You know, the whole goddamned reason why we recruit in the first place.

Last time I checked, CJ Hampton was one of our first commitments. He's also from the state of MS. We must be paying him, because there's no way he chooses his home state school over all mighty Bama.

How about the notion that they would like to go to a school that could do something special and take down the traditional powers? Immediate playing time?
