I liked the kid, and was hoping we could land him....
BUT... he was originally from London, he's played one year of American football, has a soccer background..therefore great feet...sooo..I liked the potential and upside....but....I could see him washing out....college football is a grind..and he hasn't really had that many two a days...just sayin...

Oregon loaded up on the DL last class.

They took a pretty small class. I assume they are going to load up and fill any holes with the portal again. As long as Phil Knight is alive, Oregon will be in the playoffs and a serious contender.. perhaps even after he dies if he sets up his will the right way.
Lanning has taken three really large classes without a lot of misses. It was going to always be smaller.

Only one defensive line player and two linebackers; no defensive tackles.
Oregon took 4 front 7 players.
DL - Matthew Johnson
Edge - Nasir Wyatt and Tobi Haastrup
LB - Gavin Nix
Oregon took 10 high school kids last cycle.

100% on money.
Not too many places have a better recent track record with DE than Mizzou, but he picks Oregon, of all places?
Kinda like Dakorien Moore.
Oregon drafted a DE in the last three seasons in round 1, 3 and 4.
They have another queued up in Jordan Burch. I think it's safe to say Matayo Uiagalelei will go high in 2026.

How stupid is this comment. He’s been alive a long time and they’ve been neither in the playoffs yet nor a contender EVER so when does it start when he’s on hospice? frickING IDIOT

Oregon made the inaugural playoffs and played for the championship twice

Hard for kids to pass up NIL money that's assured before you've had to prove anything.
This will be the case for many especially when you give millions to an unproven HS player who hasnt even played college ball yet.

No trolling on the recruiting board, but I'll respond anyways..
NIL just started a few years ago.. most teams across the country didn't pay players the kind of money that Oregon has been paying lately.. maybe some $100 handshakes here or there.. maybe a bag with $5k or $10k.. Reggie Bush received benefits totaling $300k for his entire career that included a Heisman. $100k a year.. and that's at the top of the mountain.
Dak Moore just signed for $1.25 million/year with Oregon (Phil Knight). Bryce Underwood just signed for $15 million over 3 years with Michigan (Larry Ellison). This isn't the same game as 5 years ago.. You need someone or a bunch of someone's to fund those payments.. Phil Knight is that guy at Oregon.
I accept your apology.

Seems like a Tom Herman type class, high in the overall ranking but unbalanced.
Having elite skill players is great and all, but if you don't recruit the big boys it may be all for naught.
You can occasionally find elite DT's in the portal (Edge players more common) but truly elite O-line are much harder to find as they usually come in out of HS knowing they could ride the bench 1-3 seasons until they're developed.

Again, Oregon took 10 high school DL last cycle.
I love fans of other teams projecting their PTSD.
Lanning has already proven he values the front 7. He loaded up on it.

Didn’t Phil Knight say he was gonna give Oregon a blank check to win a natty before he dies?

With classes like that they won’t be. That’s more like a Tom Herman style class. It will do fine in the Big10, but to be a contender you have to be built like an SEC team. They seems to lack that in the defensive front 7 which is hard to replace in the portal.

they had a big DL class last year and as I said on a different post, I do believe you can find DL portal guys ..
exhibit A - Texas this year took 3-4 and they have been solid backups .. it’s hard for a freshman to come right in and contribute on the DL.. it happens, but it’s rare

I’m not up to date on what their previous classes look like. I would assume they would have liked to sign a few DL as they tried dropping a bag on Sharma. Finding DL in the portal is okay for your typical rotational guys. It is very rare to find the Alfred Collins, Mason Graham type of players. They maybe have those up and coming, but you need those type of guys to be a contender.

That’s just my opinion on the class. In general. I’m not sure what that has to do with the playoffs.

Oregon had 10 high school front seven players and has 5 already in the next class. Oregon needed OL and secondary players in this class.

Oregon got Derrick Harmon and he’ll go in the first two rounds and all Big 12 player in Caldwell.
