Who the frick are you talking to, boy? I will slap the frick out of you. I love Louisiana more than anyone because this is what I know. But Georgia is a nice state with a well run government. Louisiana, for the most part, is a shithole... but it’s my shithole

And Florida.
I didn't realize we had a lot of people moving to Georgia from Florida. I guess I just don't run into them. I do run into a lot of people from Ohio, New York and New Jersey.
Georgia got a ton of people from New York when Delta bought Pan Am. I can only guess the other northerners came down for the weather?

I don't give shite if anybody said it was or not. What I posted is true. The fact that you got your panties all in wad over my post is absolutely hilarious though.

I read an article about people that were termed "Halfbacks." It was folks who had moved from up north to Florida and it didn't fit and moved to the blue ridge mountains instead of going all the way back up north. This article was focused on Northern Georgia, but also mentioned other areas, like the Carolinas and Tennessee.

I know a lot of retirees (rich enough to retire in FL but not rich enough to be snow birds with 2 residences) that fled FL because of the cost, hassle, frequency of hurricanes.
They've either gone lakeside on Lanirt or in the mountains (often with private lakes)

Wow. I wish I had known this sooner! my wife and I just bought a lot in Hayesville, NC about 5 minutes from Hiawassee, Ga. Now I have to put up with a lot of double transplanted yankees?

Thanks for the info. I had not really heard about that. It is pretty up there, though. our lot is on the side of a mountain overlooking Lake Chatuge.

We looked at one lake....Lake laceola. it was a relatively small lake set down in a bowl....it was absolutely beautiful. The lot we liked was a $170,000 though, so we passed.

I went to school in western NC for 2 years before I transferred to UGA. ALL of my FL classmates had houses in the mountains. They buy mountain property like many of us buy beach houses.

Wait. Am I supposed to have a beach house, too?

Just an aside, since you live in Rome, we also looked at Weiss Lake just across the Alabama border from Rome. Weiss Lake is pretty, but we just couldn't find a lot that suited us.

Lots of people around here like Weiss Lake. I have no real opinion on it; I grew up on the coast in Savannah, but can't stand the beach or water in general.

Macon? desert? I am missing the joke. I mean, are you just saying it because you don't like Macon? Wouldn't be where I would want to live.
I really like the North Georgia mountains, though. All across the border from Rome all the way over to the other side and north. I don't much care for South Georgia. Central Georgia is pretty good, too. The Griffin area is okay and northward.

I lived for years about 30 miles from Macon. Like I said...I wouldn't necessarily want to live there, but there are worse places, too. I much prefer the cooler mountains. Well, cooler in the fall/winter anyway.
