Wrong message. You don't want to send the message that they might not be good enough. You could, however, go after the UT staff for not giving a shite about their recruits as people, whether that's true or not. This sort of incident looks really bad on them.

What a load of shite. I may not agree with the decision but Butch did the same exact thing twice last year and UT has an even better class this year. Dominique Booth was committed for six months, planned to be an EE and was dropped for Josh Malone in late December. Kevin Mouhon had his spot taken in mid January to make room for Michael Sawyers.

Do you really think this is the first time Butch has done this since he's been at TN?
We did the same thing with Jabo Lee of Dillon HS in SC in his first class...doesn't seem to have hurt us the past two years.
Now will it hurt us at that specific HS? Probably, but Butch will mend the bridge over the next few years.

It might not be an issue now, but coaches of other schools will pull a list and negative recruit TN for doing that eventually. That's for another day though.
I actually have no problem with being up front and honest to a kid. If you think he's the 5th best DE, you let him know that. However, doing it this late is the actual problem.

I hate that we pulled his offer. It's not a good look, and it puts an undue burden on the kid. However, it is what it is. Kids flip on signing day with no notice every year. It goes both ways. Schools cut ties with kids. Kids cut ties with schools.
It is what it is. An arms race where EVERYONE, kids and schools alike, lives in the grey area.

Saban has been doing it for years. If his strategy pays off and UT wins. Recruits likely won't give a damn.

I agree with this. I don't like it, but the game is cruel, and this has happened at EVERY school at one time or another.

Yep, but it is in his 2nd season, and a bunch of those guys were from this season. The reputation is building, it's not going to catch fire overnight. I know some HS coaches, you may know some as well, you know this type of thing is what they talk about at conferences or to each other about. Word is going to spread, vols don't honor offers and even yank accepted commitments.
