JC Latham Crystal Ball Forecast change
By STEVE WILTFONG
Flipped my 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast from Ohio State to Alabama for the No. 1 offensive tackle in the Top247 in JC Latham. The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy standout tweeted Saturday night he was close to a commitment.
Multiple sources indicate they think the Crimson Tide are the one to beat.

We really recruit elite tackles at an unreal rate. 4 of our top 9 overall recruits in this millenium are tackles. If we can get this guy and Brockermeyer they'll both push for PT next year and both likely start as sophomores somewhere along the line. I think Cohen from last years class is going to be really good though. We seem to have shifted to the leaner body type, whether by deisgn or availablity I'm not sure

Looks pretty good with the Ohio State folks waving the flag.

Barring anything unexpected he will announce to Alabama.

quote:
Ideal length with excellent frame for left tackle. Carries 285 pounds like 265. Athletic and moves well laterally. Quick hands on initial punch. Length creates issues for defenders trying to disengage. Bends well at knees. Explodes into and up in the running game. Can scrape and get to second level. Patient in pass protection. Plenty of room for physical growth. Used to playing against elite pass rushers. Has kick step but needs to continue to develop it. Does not always sink hips, especially in pass protection. Needs to add upper body strength and be more physical with initial punch. Adding element of nastiness would help. Multi-year starter for Top 10 program. First round NFL draft potential.

Is he leaner than most of the tackle recruits that bama has brought in the recent past?

Not significantly IMO, guys like Cam Robinson, Evan Neal, and DJ Fluker are as much an outlier weight at 330+ as Jonah Williams was coming in at 280.
I don't think there's a change in philosophy, it's just a case by case basis on elite OT recruits interested in Bama. There's a 265 pound OT and and 360 pound OT on the Bama offer list, talent is talent.

2021 Top Offensive Tackle Recruits
(247 Composite)
Top 20 range from 6-4 to 6-8 and 265 to 336 lbs.
The 6-4 guys might end up playing OG or OC.

There's been a lot of talk of "family dynamics" in this one. No one has really gotten into it except that he's in Chicago with his mom, who apparently really likes Saban. I'm assuming some other part of the family really likes OSU (maybe his dad I dunno?).
The thought was he would go back to Florida soon for school and then OSU would make the ground they had lost up when he wasn't living with his mom.
Not sure if he takes any visits after this

Fine with Bama taking him.
Dawgs will take the consolation prize of Amarius Mims

Man as an AU fan who has watched us struggle so badly with tackles lately it blows watching Bama and UGA stack them like cord wood every year.
Maybe Latham will push the Brock boys to Auburn. Pigs have flown before right?

Don’t think he is in a hurry. Will likely be in season / fall.

Agree, rather him be at OSU than at Bama. Bama we play every year.

Crystal balls to Bama rolling in for Lathan and the Brockermeyer twins. God damn that would just be unfair
