Florida fans are up in arms about Billy not attacking the portal. But another Gator fan pointed out the teams that have 0 committed from the portal...

You need a solid base of high school kids. And the teams that recruit in the top 10 for high school players are usually the best teams in the country.
Ole Miss has figured out under Lane that you can build a solid base with high school players and plug holes and get instant impact players through the portal.
Your coaches have to be excellent evaluators for the portal to work.

OM gets dominated by teams that build programs the right way through HS recruiting even in their best year.

Pretty misleading to use portal commits as of now if you ask me
Why wouldn’t they use prior years?

Texas would not be in the CFP without Adonai Mitchell. Got him last year via the portal from Georgia. Good teams utilize the portal to fill their needs when players aren’t developed enough yet.
Gators should be using the portal, but it’s also early so they might be waiting to see who else jumps in.

He better think of something lol.
Sounds like Texas is gonna flip Xavier Filsaime. He’s at UT right now on an official visit.

I'm curious why you think there is a right way to build a solid football team? What makes it the right way? Why do you feel one way is right but the other is wrong?

I'll let him speak for himself, but I'd guess it's that Yellow Wood/Auburn is supposedly dropping $425k-$500k on high school recruits this cycle.

I can’t speak for others. However, I think there is a right way to build a team because all the teams winning championships are building their teams the same way. Lane Kiffin has done a great job, better than any imo, building through the portal, but he wasn’t competitive at all against UGA or Bama. Kiffin will be just inside or outside of the playoffs every season based on what he’s doing, but he’ll never win any rings if he continues this way. There’s nothing wrong with that imo. Most Florida fans are infatuated with comparing themselves to Georgia or Alabama, so if it’s not comparable to those two schools, then it’s wrong

I do wonder if some team is going to all in the portal at some point and buy about 50 guys with the rest making nothing as special teams fill and practice squad. Basically emulating an NFL roster.

That’s a huge step up for a team that’s been an SEC bottom feeder for most of the last 40-50 years. I'm sure they won’t mind being a team that’s usually solid - never great, for a change.

The way I look at it, a school like ole miss can't afford to gamble $500K+ on most hs players that are unproven. Uga, texas, A&M; schools like that can afford to buy a top 5 hs recruiting class and have some of those kids be busts or transfer out the next year for more money or playing time. Ole miss is going to spend that money on proven players. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a top 10 recruiting class and develop players I get to root for for 3 or 4 years but the best way for ole miss to win right now is plugging holes with proven players.
