Georgia- question regarding Will Anderson

Did Georgia not really pursue will Anderson that hard this year? Kind of surprised y’all weren’t more involved in his recruitment. Is it because y’all had higher players on yalls board or already had some big commitments?
He seems like he performed really well at all American bowl and also had a big season and could become a 5 star

Mekhail Sherman is our OLB for this class. Higher on the board. After Nolan Smith and Jermaine Johnson in 2019, I think we were comfortable with 1 edge rusher (rian davis is an OLB from 2019, but I think we have been working him at ILB).

This. Plus we're stacked right now with young talent at that position. We passed on Ojulari and him once we got Sherman.

Georgia is loaded at OLB right now. Only took 1, Sherman

Yeah. I show 6 OLBs for next season (and that doesnt count Robert Beal or Rian Davis).
The average recruiting score of those 6 is 0.96235.

Do we accept Clowney if he wants in?

Anderson is on record that Georgia was texting him on ESD, so either y'all wanted another edge rusher, deemed Anderson a take regardless of position due to talent, or were simply trying to keep a kid from Alabama- which with scholarship limits just doesn't really happen anymore.
Georgia wanted Anderson but was late to the party is the way it looks

Hate to miss on him for sure. He will be really good for Bama.

A last second text on ESD doesn't scream priority. He's a good player that happens to be at a position UGA is deep at. Same thing happened with Wayna Morris last year.

Congratulations text?
The kid never visited Georgia (officially or unofficially) according to 247. He has about 5 visits to GT.
I dont doubt that we texted him on ESD. I dont doubt that we told him that we would love to have him.
But I doubt that we offered him a spot in the class. There is a difference. Follow the visits. That should be all we need to know about the kids recruitment (bama, tennessee, auburn, gt)
He looks to be a good one.

Or UGA was trying to determine what its options were heading into January depending on how numbers shook out.

We were short on spots for OLBs. My son actually graduated from Dutchtown HS, so I kind of keep an eye on them. They have had a couple of really good players come through there. last year (or the year before?) Trey dean came out and went to Florida and got a lot of playing time. I was hoping we would get in on Anderson, but we are just loaded at OLB right now.
I haven't seen him play, as i just haven't gotten up and gone to see Dutchtown play.

I think this is what Kirby does when it looks like we are going to have couple of scholarships available. I am sure he did want Anderson. Great player.

Just a guess....I am hearing we are taking 2-3 more players than we were thinking earlier. We thought a 23 man class and are now looking at 24-25 or more even.
Then with all the Evans confusion.....well.....

Emptying the notebook: Lasting impressions from all-star season

quote:
*** Alabama signee Will Anderson might be the biggest riser from either game. We already liked the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder a bunch heading into the week, strictly off his phenomenal senior video. Having yet to see him in person, there was a bit of an unknown, which was quickly erased. Anderson would’ve been a riser had he just lived up to what he put on video, but he exceeded my expectations. The central Georgia native checked in with 34 inch arms (longer than most of the offensive linemen in attendance) and dominated practice from the jump. Anderson was the best edge player I saw at either event. His first-step quickness and burst was expected but the speed to power and explosion on contact was startling. He regularly stunned offensive linemen with the pop in his hands and finished plays at perhaps the highest rate of anyone. The play speed and effort level were also outstanding. That effort transferred over to the game, where Anderson continued to be highly disruptive. He also drew rave reviews from the coaching staff for his attitude and willingness to learn.

Congrats. I guess we'll just have to settle for Sherman

From the same article:
quote:
-Outside of Wesley Steiner, the Team Savage linebackers in Under Armour had some struggles. Mekhail Sherman and Antoine Sampah both entered their senior seasons recovering from knee injuries. There was some hesitation in changing directions in space during Thursday’s game.
Sherman is still a good player though.

ETA: Not trying to be petty, just passing along the info I just read through.

Oh he’s a hell of a player. I said way back in the spring that I was disappointed we weren't even trying to be in the mix. He'll be a stud for y'all.
