Well this is from Bryan Matthews' Insider notes:
quote:

***Chizik has not visited 4-star defensive end Channing Ward and it appears unlikely that he will. Ward is telling coaches that he’s solid with his commitment to Ole Miss and doesn’t want to entertain visitors. Things can and do change in recruiting but right now, I think his recruitment is over.

That just can't be. Saban told Taylor that their class was full and he didn't have room for him.

Greg Roman is the OC of the 49ers came over with Harbaugh after spending a good while in the pro game coaching QBs and numerous positions on O...intrigued about the possibility of getting back to college, before Stanford he had always been a NFL coach and loved it at Stanford, misses college. Also intrigued by coaching offense in the SEC. Here is his Stanford bio with most extensive background I found:

As far as O system he runs a pro style with a lot of similarities to a.spread.

Does not look like Roman has ever been a qb coach. He is an Oline/TE coach. Not sure that it matter that he has never coached QBs. But whomever is the new OC has a mess on his hands at that position. Would not mind having Roman for the blocking scheme and TE passing game he would most likely use.

Just heard we've made a hire, and apparently he's still in the playoffs.

If it is Roman, anyone think he would bring Chryst along as a QB coach? His name was being tossed around as the hire, would make sense if Roman isn't a QB coach.

Would be huge in recruiting imo.

One of my friends from high school's dad works pretty high up in the AD.

He said he couldn't get his dad to spill the beans on a name, though.

I assume he is still coaching but what happens if his team goes to the super bowl? We have to make the announcement Monday regardless. He has to be here at least a week before signing day.

I don't think this is even a question at this point. It's killing us in recruiting.

I think you are wrong on this one. Could be right about Roman though.

A lot of people still think it's Cam Cameron, which makes a little less sense, IMO.

Greg Roman Bio

He was QB coach at the Texans in 04-05. I have heard that a 49ers coach that wanted to return to college was the lead canidate. Never thought that it was Roman. I would do flips if we hired him. That would be a triple grandslam hire in my opinion.

There are rumors that they have hired someone and are waiting till after the games tomorrow to announce. I would be trilled if we got Roman.

I've been told that Auburn's next OC has been selected. Could be on hold until after tomorrow's NFL games, could not, but he's on board.

Roman would be a solid hire. I would have to give Chiz an A on both hires, if true.
