Someone on AE is saying apparently JOX or someone at JOX is saying it's the Ravens OC, Craig Ver Steeg.
I'm officially not interested any more until it's announced.

Craig Ver Steeg as a candidate, I like his resume.
I agree he has some real positive history, and seems to really excel with QB's. I would not be disappoint with him or Roman.

I know Chiz has spoken with the OC at USC. THAT eould be a homerun hire. Anything else to me would be sort of meh by comparison.

Why would Kiffin come to Auburn and why the hell would he leave USC?

Kennedy Pola(malu)? He has never been a qb coach, and Lane Kiffen calls the plays at USC. How is that a homerun hire?

With the talent USC has coming back and them looking to make a run at a NC, I would be surprised if we got him. But then again money does talk.

I dont know him. Was just told by a coach that "the guy at USC is still in play at AU". I think Kiffin calls plays, but someone carries title, gameplans, and recruits.
Could be an NFL guy. I was told wks ago Choz wants pro in terms of experience & system. However, that was not an end all be all. I would be shocked if it is the names mentioned in here (Roman or Cam Cameron).

I don't think he's their OC.

No I'm pretty sure he's just an offensive assistant.

Sorry bro, but this doesn't make sense with your first comment. Why would you be shocked if it was Roman or Cameron when you said anyone other then Polamalu would be meh. Polamalu is 2nd to last on the staff listed right above the S&C coach.
quote:
Lane Kiffin - Head Coach
Joe Barry - Linebackers Coach
John Baxter - Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator
James Cregg - Offensive Line Coach
Ted Gilmore - Wide Receivers Coach
Clay Helton - Quarterbacks Coach
Monte Kiffin - Assistant Head Coach
Sammy Knight - Safeties Assistant
Justin Mesa - Tight Ends Coach
Ed Orgeron - Defensive and Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line
Kennedy Polamalu - Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs Coach
Aaron Ausmus - Strength and Conditioning Coach
Edit: Looks like RB is his specialty and is the uncle to Troy Polamalu.

Just inquiring on your reasoning.

Most obvious would be Clay Helton...I think he has some ties to AU....

I dont know that it is Pola. I assume it is bc he said "the guy at USC". It may be another guy on staff. As for him being listed 2nd fro bottom, that doesnt matter to me. He was only hired in early summer. Maybe that listing is by tenure.
as for me saying anyone else would be "meh" let me clarify - obviously not ANY one else, but anyone else mentioned with the job that is a realistic candidate. Cam Cameron is not coming. I'd be stunned if Greg Roman left NFL for any college job. Not a knovk on AU. He wld not be meh, but the position coach at Ravens would be and the other realistic candidates mentioned would be.
From a perseption standpoint, AU taking a coach from USC - a team that will be preseason top 5 - would look strong. that was my point

Not really. An NFL guy can sell "I know what it takes to get you to the NFL." USC guys cant do that. And if was going to be a USC guy, he would have already been hired by now.

First of all I wasn't taking anything as a knock. You said OC so one would assume that Polamalu was who you meant. I think his name being so low on the totem pole says a lot, but that is just me. Nussmeier just hired is right below Saban on the Bama site. It just says to me Polamalu is OC in title only.
I just don't see any coach from USC happening, but I don't have any frickin insiders. I am like wheat shifting with the wind.
Edit: BTW this is what you said.

All the NFL candidates have better resumes than Polamalu. I think the hire will either be Roman or Ver Steeg. I'd prefer Roman, but either way, it would be a great hire.
