From a Defensive line perspective what’s better: 1 five star edge or 4 four star mix

Who wouldn’t want the depth?

Several 4 stars, especially if 50% or more are top 150.

Definitely the latter. Edge guys are fun and occasionally disruptive but can be schemed away pretty quickly.

Talent and depth on the interior, however, will make or break or your defensive performance.

UGA has had some historic defenses the last couple of years and they don't really get a ton of sacks if that tells you anything.

You need a deep DL you can rotate.

I’d take Franklin, Waller, Beavers, Rush over one Colin Simmons any day.

Exactly this. Rotate to keep them fresh late in the game.
Alabama has done this for years, and Georgia has done it since Smart got to Athens.

Oatis scares me a bit. I'm afraid he will be a Q clone. Big aggressive player that can stop up the middle and make plays.

I mean, no. You don't choose to let a 5* go so you can take 4 4*. Obviously you try to get all of them.

Look at the most successful schools and they typically are deep across the OLine and Dline. (Of course, they typically are deep everywhere. ) Alabama, Georgia, LSU etc.

It's one reason I expect Texas A&M to have a good year. Their big class matures a bit this year. I'm not sure what they have across the OLine.

Edge won’t matter if they can run it down your throat. Take the depth.

So 5 stars or 16 stars? I’m taking 16 stars every time.

I think the jacked up premise is really discounting how disruptive a truly elite DE is in CFB.

A guy that can get through a double team makes every level of the defense better.

Really you just need a guy that demands a double team.

Actually, it's 4 guys that can play.

You need to add Echols and Davis…especially Echols at DT/NG
