Honestly, I don’t know their situation with kickers and schools don’t need one unless they do. We took advice from kicking coaches, we researched some on our own, and if an SEC staff reached out we went.
We went to the closest SEC schools outside of LSU and Alabama. So it wasn’t done elaborate equation style.

Wish the best for your son man! The visit updates have been cool to read.

Thanks for the updates. I always find this sorta stuff interesting. I've been fortunate enough to have talked to some parents of student athletes, and recruits over the years. It's always interesting to hear the behind the scenes stuff.
Any schools outside the SEC he's interested in?
No visits to schools in Texas?

Why wasn't he playing QB?
Yes. I was joking.
Our fans wanted it at one point haha. To be fair the kid threw some dots on 4th downs

honestly thats really cool. It seems like he has awesome parents that support his decisions and arent trying to make it about that. Be proud of him and yourself.

He will give you endless hell if R-Kansas manages to beat LSU while he's there

Yea, but he’ll just be another football player only the fan base of that particular school knows. I’m a kicker dad and I only know 5 college kickers’ names, all SEC. Just not a remarkable position overall.

Good luck to your son.
I have a friend who kicked in the league for a while. Sounds like your son's already got the leg and the skills so my biggest suggestion is to make sure his mental game is on point.
Kicker is a weird position where you're kind of "one of the guys" but kind of not at the same time. Fans will absolutely demolish you when you miss but you don't get the same praise as say a QB or WR when you make a good play - though kickers are often one of the highest point scorers on a team.
IMO it's one of the toughest positions from a mental standpoint not in terms of assignment but being able to shake off a miss and come back, being iced, etc...

Love all the downvotes you got came from dumbasses who didn’t read the thread and realize you’re his Dad
But you’re right, the kicker will only be remembered for the hearts of teams he broke or the chokes he makes. Tough position to handle mentally. GL to him on drowning out the noise and doing his thing.
ETA: But I will say, kicker has been a make or break position at AU and I remember most of them from the past 30yrs or so. I love them all including John Vaughn

Going into the summer AU was in my son’s top 3. We didn’t pick up that McPherson took a redshirt. That doesn’t end it for my son, since he could go pro after 3 years and AU could want an overlap year. A top kicker, #3 in the country, that is really good friends with my son…his dad kicked for AU. Rob Bironas. Y’all have been hot on London…so not sure my son would be the top guy even if y’all need a ‘25. Not ‘need’, just not trust a ‘26 and have some NIL money.
I still think late moves will be made by more than 1 SEC program, hoping Auburn is one…on top kickers. Gotta keep at the grind.

what are the odds that your son remains committed if pittman doesn't make it to the end of the season? are y'all concerned about that at all?
Posted on 10/31/23 at 2:41 pm to finchmeister08
Not at all. He’s likes Pittman, but he’s committed because of coach Scott Fountain. Since 2009 Fountain has coached at Auburn, Georgia, Ms State, Georgia, and now at Arkansas. He was retained through a coaching change at Auburn…but yes:
A) If he, Fountain, gets a head coaching job that kind of messes things up, since it likely won’t be at an SEC school.
B) If he’s hired by a program that already has a scholarship kicker early in his career.
Both A and B would be cause for concern…Pittman getting fired or retiring gets tough if the new head coach for whatever reason doesn’t want coach Fountain. If Fountain isn’t at Arkansas my son would reconsider most definitely.

It’s interesting to have a first-hand perspective that recruits do mostly commit based on coaches. Fans sometimes don’t realize that when we argue about other factors with our respective programs like stadium size or history but those relationships are really important.
That’s why it sucks when coaches change jobs every other year for all sorts of reasons lol. Has to be hard to determine where you’re going to spend the next 3-4 years but I guess now with the portal that doesn’t factor in as much as it used to.
